A packable coat?

You might think that since I've already made an entire blog post whining about a coat, I would have beat the subject to death by now, but nooooo, there's still more.

Doing a lot of Internet research on coats last night, which shows how exciting my life is, I now have a tentative idea of how to proceed. Just as I suspected, good coats are costly and fairly bulky. Both of which flies in the face of being a full-timer living in a medium-sized trailer. So getting down to the nub of the question about staying warm on a budget and not ending up with a storage problem for something that may be used only once or twice a year, I came up with what I think is an acceptable solution.

After looking at $300 hunting coats on Bass Pro's website, which are way too expensive and bulky. And looking at $39 hunting coats on Walmart's website, where the zippers are guaranteed to break the second time you use it. I started noticing another kind of coat called a Packable Jacket.

The packable jacket, or coat, is nothing more than a waterproof, windproof, breathable, shell that you can wear on a chilly day over a long sleeve shirt or over your regular coat to keep out the wind on a cold day, their inexpensive, their lightweight and they can often be rolled up and put in their own pocket. Which looks like exactly what I need.

My fleece jacket, which is the only coat I own, is pretty warm, but being fleece, the wind blows right through it, so it's useless for staying outside for any period of time if it's cold. But being able to cover it up with a windproof, breathable shell would make it comfortable on a chilly day. And layering up with a thermal underwear shirt, and then putting an insulated long sleeve shirt over that, all of which I already have looks like it might solve my problem.... But will it keep me from writing about coats for the rest of the week?       I certainly hope so.
