My boondocking spot at 11 mile reservoir state Park

It's good to get back in some cool weather for a change, 70s in the day time and 50s at night makes it feel good to get back in the mountains again. It is kind of cloudy with a tiny amount of rain late in the afternoons but that's kind of normal for the Colorado mountains in the summer.

I drove out to my property this morning just to check out the condition of the road, and other than a few places where there's washboard it's actually not too bad. I had only planned on staying here at 11 mile state Park for a few days and then spending a week or so at Poverty Gulch so I can do a little shooting and dirt bike riding.

I think tomorrow I will drive to Walmart and pick up a few groceries for my stay at Poverty Gulch that will also give me a chance to stop at my storage room and make sure all my stuff is still there. I really need to start selling stuff out of the storage room like I had always planned on doing but so far my inherent procrastination and terminal laziness has prevented me from even starting. Oh well maybe next summer.

I just made a brief visit this morning to poverty Gulch to see how things are looking.

This is the view from my shooting bench.To me It's so pretty it's hard to concentrate on the targets.

Sorry, but I think if I owned a property like yours, I'd have me a little cabin built in the middle of those trees & you couldn't pry me out of there. I don't think I'd ever get tried of that scenery. Do you have much wild life up there? Enjoy your time there & be safe!

Always great to hear from you again Maggie. At one time I had thought of doing just that, but it takes a tougher person than I am to deal with the winters up there. 30 below zero and three or four feet of snow is fairly common in the winter. The three Miles of dirt road going to the place is not county maintained and can quickly become impassable depending on the weather. In fact it's been raining around here for the last couple of days and is supposed to continue for another three or four days so I'm seriously considering boon docking in the national forest nearby and not taking the Arctic Fox out to my property for fear of the road washing out.

I've spent enough time out there in all the different seasons to give me a tremendous amount of respect for the pioneers that settled around here that had to deal with far worse problems than cold-weather. In fact a lot of the pioneers in this area were Civil War veterans that left their destroyed homes and farms in the South and came here for a new start in life. So they were tough, hard-nosed, independent, individuals even before they got here.

There are a lot of critters running around here and the ones I've personally seen at Poverty Gulch are, Mule Deer, Elk, Bighorn Sheep, Antelope, Bears, Mountain Lions. Wild Donkeys,Coyotes, Fox, and of course a bunch of small critters like, Squirrels, rabbits, Chipmunks, Prairie dogs and things like that.

But none of those animals have ever given me any problems other than the Wild Donkeys which will sometimes get in the way when I'm target shooting and I have to run them off.
