A beautiful warm sunny day today, I couldn't ask for better. I drove around Laughlin today and visited a few casinos, but I lost my entire $10 gambling budget for the day in the first casino I went into so the other casinos didn't get a dime out of me.
But it gave me a chance to look at the prices of the buffets in a few casinos and come to the conclusion that they're not the bargain they used to be. Back in the day when I visited Las Vegas and Laughlin the main draw for me, since I'm not a gambler, was the inexpensive buffets, casinos would have 99 cent breakfasts, and five dollar steak dinners, but unfortunately, no more.
The casinos use to make their money on the gaming floor, so food and beverage, and even the hotel rooms were there just to bring you to the casino, they didn't care if they made a profit on the food and beverage they made their money on the casino floor everything else was a loss leader.
But no more, the buffets, and hotel rooms, are outrageously priced and the casinos are making a killing on the whole property. Now I can't blame them for that, that's just good business but it sure won't get me to part with any of my meager shekels.
Oh well, it really doesn't bother me since I'm here just for the free boondocking and I've never been much of a gambler anyway. But I sure do miss being able to walk into the casino in the morning and get a 99 cent steak and egg breakfast which made the few bucks I had lost the day before a little less painful.
