I've been dealing with some real estate business for the last week or so that I had no idea would be coming up.

I sold one of my rental houses to some folks a long time ago, and I carried the note. But now they're selling the house to someone else, and the bank that those folks are getting a loan from will be paying off the mortgage I hold, banks always want to be in a first position when it comes to mortgages, and I don't blame them. So the remainder of the mortgage will be paid off, and I've been trying to get things done to facilitate the closing, which is supposed to be May 1.

My participation in this deal is extremely limited and would've been a piece of cake if I were in the Arctic Fox. The Arctic Fox is my office and has everything I need to get deals done when I was doing such things. It had my desktop, printer, copier, and all of the documentation I would normally need for buying or selling property.

But, being away from Denver and away from my "office," I don't have anything except a laptop, and it doesn't even have the proper software on it to do the things I need to do. So even doing this very simple deal has been a major headache for me, since I've been having to interact with the title company, the realtor, the seller, and having very little access to a notary and pertinent documents or the computer peripherals that I need.

As we speak, I'm still fooling around with this deal, and hopefully, I'll know by tomorrow if they're going to have the closing on May 1. But I sure would hate to be the one that causes this deal to go belly-up on the beach.

I know most people don't feel this way but when I'm boondocking I feel like I'm part of the land. I feel like I'm not only unplugged from the utilities that everyone needs, I sometimes feel like I'm unplugged from civilization. I don't pull into a ready-made home like other RVers do, I have to make a home for myself. I get my electricity from the sun, I have to scrounge for water, and a place to dump my tanks. And most of all I have to find a safe place to stay, that hopefully has a nice view.

Sometimes it's a challenge, sometimes it's a problem, but it's always life, and it always makes me feel like I'm living it.

We did the property thing once while out on the road and had to do some documents and such, and no way to do them.

We checked into a Best Western that had a nice business center and talked with the owner before hand, telling him what we might need for a few days, and they took care of us very well. We had access to faxes, copies, copiers, a scanner, much a better computer than our little travel laptop, a good phone connection, and all the help you could want.

Don't know if this would work for you, but it sure helped us, and the deal closed on time with no problems.

Thank you for that information KennyD. Yes being in a hotel with office equipment available would definitely be a lot of help, and actually 10 or 15 years ago I've done similar things. But this time my problem is something that more equipment would simplify, but not solve the entire problem.

It's really my distance from the Arctic Fox and my inability to obtain required documents that's causing most of my problems. Right now my wife and my daughter, back in Denver, can't find the original promissory note, looking in the places I'm telling them to look, and the property is in the name of one of my LLCs, and not me personally, and the paperwork for that LLC showing that I'm the General Partner is also not in my possession.

This would've been a lot easier if I was living in the Arctic Fox at the moment, but I'm not so I'm having to muddle through as best I can. Had I known it was going to be so much trouble for everyone involved, I would've packed up and gone back to Denver snow or no snow.

One of the bloggers I read recently left Elephant Butte for Colorado. They did hit some snow in the higher elevations but not much. I don't think they are quite as far north as Denver, though. You can follow them at: http://ontheroadabode.blogspot.com

Thank you for the information on that blog Linda.

It's not so much that I fear driving through some snow, I've been doing that for over 30 years. It's mostly because I don't like being in Colorado in the Spring. To me the weather is the worst. It might be 75° one day and snowing the next, then it warms up a little bit and the snow all melts at once, and there's mud everywhere.

And yes the weather forecast says it's 75° that day, but it's only 75 from two o'clock until three o'clock and the rest of the time it's 40 or 50. Don't get me wrong, there can be some beautiful days in Denver in the spring. But as soon as you get used to a few days like that, it snows again and temperatures get below freezing.

And chances are that even when I get back there in late May, I may still face a little snow before summer hits. So a lot of my problem is psychological, that I just don't like Springtime in the mountains.

We were in Denver visiting my mother one year for New Year's Eve. Did not need a coat. Totally weird.

Yep Linda, that's exactly the way Denver is, and I think that's kind of what bothers me about it.

Before I became a full-timer I lived in the mountains of Colorado at about 9000 feet. And when it was winter, it was winter pretty much every day until spring. But in Denver during the winter, most days it's cold and snowy but some days its pretty nice, you just never know... I think I prefer knowing.
