A quiet, peaceful Sunday today, not much of anything going on, a good day to relax and enjoy the freedom of doing absolutely nothing... A situation in which I can legitimately claim to be an expert.

On peaceful days like this, I like to think about something enjoyable I could be doing if I weren't so relaxed. And the first thing that came to mind I would do; If I had the slightest motivation to get up and do something, would be to drive the three miles down the road to Chatfield State Park and take a few pictures.

There has been a lot of work done at the park since I was last there. And I haven't visited there very much because the entrance fee is expensive, as is all Colorado State Parks, so I seldom buy an annual sticker like I used to. But now, since the State has this brand-new deal where Colorado residents can buy a $ 29-a-year State Park entrance fee with the cost added to our annual auto registration if we choose. Now I can get back into the State Parks again without feeling like I'm being ripped off.

I wouldn't go today because today is such a good day for me to relax, and especially because Chatfield State Park is packed with people on any summer weekend, and there are probably long lines to get in the gate. Any State Park this close to Denver is guaranteed to be packed on the weekends, and the reservation-only campground can be counted on to be full every day of the week, all summer long.

Chatfield Reservoir is a fairly large body of water, so it gets very busy on weekends with boating, fishing, water-skiing, and generally just running around burning fuel. It's easy to see why the State Park and the reservoir are so busy because, walking around my daughter's neighborhood; it's very common to see folks with boats and RVs sitting in the yard or hidden away in one of their garages.

So I need to get over to the State Park one of these days, but I'll wait for a weekday; the park will by no means be empty, but at least I won't have to deal with long lines to get in the gate.
