My new camping spot at the Dateland RV Park. I can't remember the last time I had full hookups. There's not much to do in Dateland, and I've already done the biggest thing there is to do.... I had a Date milkshake.

When I woke up this morning I had an urge to leave. I didn't think I was going to leave the Yuma VFW until tomorrow or maybe even the next day, but the crowds, and the generators, were finally getting to me and I had the urge to bug out. It could have been helped along by the old fat man talking about moving today.

Sometimes when I read about other people traveling it makes me want to travel even more. But whatever caused it I got up, hitched up, and moseyed on down the road. I still wasn't exactly sure where I was going but I was heading in the direction of either the SKPs Park in Yuma, or Dateland Arizona.

After a couple miles the traffic on the road was pretty heavy, and I wasn't even in town yet so I decided to head for Dateland because a shortcut would get me out of this traffic and onto Interstate 8 without any more hassles.

After about an hour and a half, one rest stop, and one border patrol checkpoint later, I checked into the Dateland RV Park for a week at $117 with full hookups.

Why Dateland you ask...... Because Dateland is a good place to be if you don't care where you're at.

I was fortunate to get this picture of the beginnings of construction on Datelands new 5000 seat sporting and events center which is expected to be completed by 2055. The project is stalled at the moment as the city seeks funding for three more poles and a roll of baling wire.

In the world of full hookup campsites, that looks very good to me. I am headed for San Pedro. It is still a bit early(cold) for going farther north for Texas.

Maybe going as far south as possible, Big Bend for instance might put you in some better weather. Of course others may have thought of that also and it may be more crowded than normal.

San Pedro sounds good to me, but I'm trying to lose some weight and I don't think San Pedro would be the place to do it. They would have to put a restraining order on me to keep me out of the Chinese buffet.

Right now I'm on a strict date diet, dates for breakfast lunch and dinner. Eating the dates don't cause you to lose any weight, it's climbing the trees to get them and then running from the owners. So far the weight I've lost has been more than made up for by the amount of buckshot in my behind. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to continue this diet.

I suspect being on a strict date diet would cause me to lose weight. Might as well be on a strict prune diet. :(

I do regret never trying a date shake when I was in that part of the country, though.

The date shakes are absolutely delicious, but I'm beginning to have my doubts about their weight reduction capabilities. Since I appear to be gaining weight instead of losing it the only explanation has to be that I'm not drinking enough Date shakes.

It's because there's a lot of sugar in dates. What you need to do is eat lots of potato chips to offset all the sugar.

Throw in a beer to wash it down with and it sounds like the perfect diet to me.
