I can't believe how lucky I am

I can't believe how lucky I am. I got to Picacho Peak State Park at about 10:30 and pulled into the tail end of a 15 car line waiting to get into the Park due to this being peak Poppy wild-flower viewing season, and the busiest time of the year for Picacho Peak State Park.

Now I knew that there was almost no chance that I was going to get a campsite at the Park, but I gave it a shot just because I had to drive by it anyway. But when I pulled up behind all those cars I knew it was hopeless because I have never seen the park this busy.

After about 15 minutes in line I finally got to the front and I even had my seven dollars in hand just to get a day-pass to take a few pictures of the flowers. And just in passing I told the Ranger I had no reservations but did they have a place I could stay for one night?

The Ranger said probably not but I'll check, and a few minutes later came back and told me they had one Campsite left in the entire park but it didn't have any hookups, I grabbed that site instantly.  The Ranger kept asking me are you sure? It really doesn't have any electric hookups, and I just smiled and told him I would be glad to suffer without electricity just to stay here.

So I'm staying in an overflow area which can't be reserved because it's first come first serve, so I have to go to the office and re-up if I want to spend another night, and so far it looks like that's what I'm going to do.

So how's my mouse problem? I thought you'd never ask. I don't know yet what's going on with my mouse problems. I cleaned all the mouse sign out of the truck yesterday and reset two mousetraps. This morning I didn't see any signs of a mouse being anywhere in the truck, and the peanut butter on the traps hadn't been touched. Wasn't the mouse hungry? Did the mouse decide to leave? Was it all a bad dream? It wasn't the third question for sure, but the previous two are still possible, and it will take some more time to determine which is right.

There's always a chance of picking up a mouse while boondocking. There's no way around it. You'll be parked on dirt, and mice live in holes in the dirt. So sooner or later, you have a much better chance of having mouse problems while boondocking than at a regular RV Park. There are mice everywhere, but out boondocking, you may be the only one in the area with a nice warm engine to get next to and an RV that smells like food.

I drove over to the last campsite available and found a huge pull-through site, the nearest neighbor is 100 yards away, peaceful , quiet, and a beautiful view !

But it didn't have an electric plug-in.... OH, BOO-HOO!
