I found the Elephant at Elephant Butte state Park.
I went into town this morning, picked up a few groceries, and topped up my fuel tank. Once I get to the Paseo del Rio campground tomorrow morning I don't plan on coming back into town again, I'll just leave from the campground and go straight out to I-25 and head North.
I stopped by the Paseo del Rio campground on the way back to Elephant Butte State Park. I started worrying about the park entrance last night because the entrance is a little narrow and you have to make a hard left turn right there. There's some big rocks and concrete structure at the entrance that gets in the way of a sharp left turn while pulling a trailer. I wanted to look it over again to make sure it wasn't going to be a problem.
After a thorough looksee, and some complicated mathematical equations, I determined that I could make the turn but I wouldn't want to try it with a longer trailer. Driving on into the campground there was already a fifth wheel in their that wasn't there yesterday and It looked about the same size as the Arctic Fox so I assume I can get in okay.
I drove through the campground to a spot I'd planned on staying and discovered that there was a couple of trees in that spot that has really low branches that I would definitely hit if I pulled into that site. So I located another perspective boondocking spot that looks like it will work out just fine.
The campground looks very old and obviously was not designed for large RVs. It also looks like if it was almost full it might be difficult to turn a large RV around and head back out of the campground. I plan on getting over there fairly early tomorrow morning because there is a weekend coming up and some folks start looking for camping spots on Friday, and since there's a lot of sites that I won't fit into I want to get there early so I won't have much competition.
Weird flowering bush that has flowers made up of lots of little flowers.
