My much-needed part for the Lance's refrigerator didn't arrive today as planned. Apparently because the post office won't accept shipments from UPS, which I think I knew already but I never know who is going to carry the shipment. At my sister's house where I get most of my Amazon stuff, sometimes its brought by an Amazon prime van, UPS, FedEx, and yes even the post office puts it in the mailbox, but today the post office canceled my shipment and sent it back to Amazon .

I immediately ordered the part again and this time I'm going to have to pay the UPS store five or ten bucks to reach behind the counter and hand it to me... What a ripoff.

Like I mentioned yesterday I have to leave my hookup site Friday morning, because no hookup sites are available until Sunday so I'll have to boondock for a couple of nights which I'm very happy to do, but I will have little or no refrigeration until my repair part gets here on Monday.

The fridge is still running perfectly on AC electricity, so as long as I'm plugged in, I don't have a problem, but I'm much happier boondocking. The boondocking areas seem to stay much cleaner than the hookup sites, and there's usually a nice view from the boondocking areas.

I've always found it surprising how many RVers are willing to give up living in a beautiful location just so they can plug into electricity. I've always felt the opposite; I had rather give up the air conditioning and compensate by staying in places that don't get too hot, so that I can avoid the crowds, and the hassles that come with the crowds, and wake up to a beautiful view every morning. When I can look out my window when I wake up and see the sun breaking on the horizon, lighting up a clear blue lake, it gives me a feeling of joy and happiness that lasts the whole day.

But I understand being an RVer gives everyone the right to live how they want. And I know there are very good reasons for folks to live the way they do, whatever that way may be, because there is no wrong way to be an RVer; whatever way an RVer chooses is the RIGHT way. But with solar panels getting more efficient and, at the same time, cheaper, and batteries getting better and better, I am seeing a lot more folks boondocking in the desert and the forest. And as campground prices increase and reservations get more difficult to deal with there will probably be more RVers boondocking on public land... I just hope there won't be so many that we end up destroying the opportunitys for future boondockers.

This restroom near me has these very convenient outdoor showers. But while I was using the outdoor shower, a Park Ranger drove up and told me I had to put on some clothes... I don't know how you're supposed to get clean if you're still wearing your clothes?

You can not only camp on the beach, you can have your boat with you if you want.

With the influx of new campers and RV's equipped with solar I foresee more federal regulations concerning boondocking. I read a article recently that the Dept. of Interior wants to place Green policies on a equal footing with the goals and missions of the Forest Service and BLM. Some feel that this will cause a closure of some area's that are being utilized by boondockers. I can't find the article. This is not being helped by those that abuse the privilege by leaving trash, dumping waste, and tearing up the land in some area's with ORV's. I'm afraid that the numbers of folks frequenting boondocking areas will initiate more control.

You have inspired me to visit Elephant Butte when I make it to NM again. Good luck on the refer. Did the burner tube go bad? or ???

Funny you should mention that. I was watching a Senate hearing on that very subject the other day, and they had the newly appointed head of the department of interior as a witness, who by the way seemed very belligerent to any Republicans that took the position it was the "people's land." And just like you said, she was taking the position that "green policies" was the way to go, and to bureaucrats that almost always means closing off public land to any use at all.

I think there's only one thing that may save us from these unelected bureaucrat tyrants that make rules that are treated like laws. Google up, "Chevron case, and the Supreme Court". If the Supreme Court rules favorably for the American people its gonna solve a lot of problems that have been plaguing this country for decades... Including the one were talking about now.

Yes we are our own worst enemy, and it only takes a handful of people breaking the rules to get public areas closed off, and the fact that bureaucrats are always looking for ways to accomplish that is why closures have accelerated as fast as they have. It's always been my experience that we baby boomers, due to our numbers have been instrumental in causing people's rights to be taken away.

Yeah, I've always liked Elephant Butte, mostly because of all the boondocking areas. You can either boondock right next to everybody like in an RV Park, or Park off by yourself where you don't have to deal with the crowds. I consider the Elephant second only to Quartzsite for the ease of finding a perfect spot to boondock.

I'm assuming the burner tube "went bad, "but it's just a metal tube with some holes in it, so it's hard to imagine what could go bad, but everything I've read on the Internet, and there's a lot, says that when your freezer is freezing but the reefer is barely cool, then the problem is the burner tube. And the fact that my fridge works perfectly on AC points to the only thing it could possibly be is the burner tube, or the gas valve that controls the propane into the refrigerator, and it's usually the burner tube causes the problem. I guess I'll find out Monday when I get a new one, because changing the burner tube out appears to be the only way to tell.
