Sunrise at the rifle range boondocking area. I've been so happy to be back at Ben Avery that I've been waking up early just so I can soak up as much gun range ambience as I can.

Yet another beautiful desert day today, mid 70s, 25% humidity, blue skies, couldn't ask for more.
I went to the gun range office this morning and officially checked into the campground. The folks that do the campground stuff weren't here when I arrived Sunday, and yesterday was a holiday so the range was closed. So now I'm all settled in, and the Amazon order I made Sunday night was already at the office waiting for me.
getting the order that quick even with a holiday involved made me wonder what would life be like if our local, state, and federal governments worked as quickly, efficiently, and at a bargain price, just like Amazon does?
When I worked for the Air Force as a civilian some years back I would have to order things from government supply that I needed to do my job . I had to fill out a form that was complicated enough that people had to be taught how to do it, and the most important thing I had to put on that form was a "federal stock number" that every item the government uses is assigned. I can't remember how many letters and numbers were in a federal stock number but they made your Social Security number look like an abbreviation by comparison. And one wrong letter or number in that behemoth of a federal stock number and you might end up with an armored personnel carrier instead of the hammer that you needed.
It would take weeks and often months to get the simplest things so you had to guess well ahead of time about what mission critical things you might need, which as you can imagine led to considerable waste. If the correct thing showed up that you had actually ordered three months ago it was a great day and not just because you got the thing you needed but because sending back the wrong thing was even more complicated and time wasting than ordering it in the first place so you seldom sent the wrong item back which further added to the waste. After dealing with that for a lot of years you can see why I find Amazon so amazing
I haven't been doing much of anything since I got here, but there are things I should be doing, laundry for instance. But I've just been relaxing and enjoying the new lifestyle of being back at Ben Avery with the knowledge that I'll be here for two weeks so I've got plenty of time to do some fun things before I leave.
The main hundred yard range. I had to take this picture before the range opened up or the parking lot would've been full of cars and trucks.... mostly trucks.
