The day started out somewhat dreary but improved quickly.
When I got up this morning it was cloudy and foggy but at least there was enough sunshine for a promise of a better day than yesterday where it literally rained all night and all day.
I went over to the thousand yard shooting range this morning and watched them shoot for a little while. Their shooting the Southwest National Championship for long-range rifle and will be doing so until Sunday. The people that are into this sport really love it but it's not much fun to watch. The targets are so far away I can barely see them, the guns are pretty weird looking, and often in calibers that I've never even heard of, but I do love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.
What's really going to be fun is next week when what's known as Winter Range will be here for a week. Winter Range is a championship shoot for the guys and gals that dress up as cowboys and cowgirls and shoot in various disciplines that test their shooting skills with single action revolvers, lever action rifles and old-style shotguns.
This will be fun to watch, colorful to take pictures of, and a lot of interesting people to talk to. And since there will be so many of them here that's the main reason why the campgrounds are so full.
