Sometimes I go, sometimes I stay,

Clicking the pics is a sign of intelligence, curiosity, and boredom.... Mostly boredom.

Look at all the contrails in the sky. Contrails, which is short for condensation trails, are the small white streaks, that are actually ice. There's a lot of them in the sky above Quartzsite, and the only thing I can figure is since there made by  high flying aircraft, such
as passenger jets, passing through below freezing air, and Quartzsite is between Phoenix and Los Angeles, those are probably made by commercial airlines flying between those two major cities.

For the contrails to last that long, there has to be little or no high-altitude winds blowing to scatter the ice crystals......

there will be a "pop quiz" on this subject at some point in the future, but don't worry it's open book, multiple-choice, and I grade on the curve. If you're already in college and refuse to take the test because it's offensive to anyone at  the school, you will automatically be assigned a grade of "B+" just for attempting to read this far.

I drove into town this morning, dumped my tanks and filled up with water. I had already filled up my empty propane tank yesterday, so all I had left to do is stop at the Walmart in Parker, buy some groceries, and I would be all set for a leisurely hundred mile drive to Lake Havasu.

 I had figured on leaving Quartzsite today, thinking that since it's Sunday morning there wouldn't be much traffic on the road. But for some reason between my boondocking spot and filling up with water at the "Pit Stop" in Quartzsite, I decided to stay in Quartzsite for another night.

The weird thing is I normally have a reason for making decisions to go or stay, but for the life of me I can't think of a single reason why I didn't go to Havasu today. I checked the flea markets yesterday for some oddball parts I need for the Lance without any luck. But a lot of stores weren't open yet.

A lot of stores know that there's not many people coming to Quartzsite for Christmas so they don't open up till closer to the "Big Show" because that's when they really make their money. And finding those parts were the only reason I came to Quartzsite.

But what I really want to find is warm weather, and the only hope I can see is my weather guessers are guessing around Wednesday Havasu is supposed to have high temperatures in the mid to high 60s, and lows in the mid to high 40s. And since it's a desert the humidity should be low enough to make those temperatures pretty comfortable.... And that weather is supposed to continue for a while.

If this is true I will have to start preparing for my Christmas holiday by taking a couple of blankets off the bed, putting my longjohns away, and digging out my bottle of sunblock. I usually arrive for my winter travels prepared for warm weather, but this time I still look like I'm traveling in Colorado. But hopefully all that will end with the balmy breezes, and warm desert sunshine that awaits me at Lake have a Sue.... I can see my dictation software is going to give me nothing but trouble while I'm in that town.

Saguaro cactus in the sunset

Boondocking in Quartzsite.

Walking in the desert I stumbled on to this long dead Saguaro cactus face down in the dirt. It was about 15 feet tall in its prime, but for some reason about 10 feet of the top broke off and fell onto a neighboring bush, apparently killing the bush in the process.

I can picture myself facedown in the desert just like this one day, I just hope I don't kill an innocent plant. With any luck I'll croak and keel over on a guy starting his generator.
