Sunday at the beach

Clicking the pics may bring back memories of the beach.

Sunday started off pretty good with a better than acceptable sunrise.

I did a little walking amongst the sand dunes this morning, but walking in loose sand is not my favorite thing. But it was pretty quiet this morning with hardly anyone on the beach, and there wasn't much of anything else for me to do.

All my pictures for today were taken yesterday since there were actually things going on yesterday. For instance, I think I spotted some actual "Spring Breakers." You would think Elephant Butte, which is the largest reservoir in New Mexico, would attract a lot of spring breakers, but for a variety of reasons, it doesn't seem to.

For college-age kids, the first thing that's lacking for the Elephant to be a spring break Mecca is notoriety. Who knows or cares about going to spring break at Elephant Butte? It certainly doesn't have the cachet of a Fort Lauderdale or a Padre island; heck, it's not even as well known as Lake Havasu! So it will be hard to impress your friends on Tik-Tok with cutesy videos of Elephant Butte.

The major problem is, there's nothing to do here. Yeah, you can ride a jet ski around... If you have one, but there's no place to rent one as far as I know. You can fish, which will impress your 19-year-old friends on Facebook as much as going to the library. And worst of all, I don't see 300 young girls here dancing around in bikinis. However, I saw a lady about my age wearing a somewhat skimpy mumu.

So it looks like the Elephant is not going to attract a noticeable spring breaker crowd anytime soon, and that's fine with me. The thought of this place being overrun with a bunch of high school and college kids, so that it looks like the Easter holidays for the entire month of April is not something I would want to deal with. I can just see myself sticking my head out the bronco door and yelling at a bunch of kids... GET OFF MY SAND,! And while you're at it, GET A JOB!

It's Sunday at the beach, what can you say. For working folks this might be the most fun activity they get all week. It helps to do something that gets work off your mind and this should do the trick.

This guys got the right idea, Sunday should be for relaxing... Which is not easy to do when you're raising kids, but this guy has a long gray beard which might mean his kid raising days are over, which leaves him plenty of time for relaxing.

This may well be the fastest boat on the Lake. He launched it on the beach right in front of me, and when he cranked it up it sounded like a dragster engine starting up.

I don't know what size engine he has in that thing, but the size and length of his rooster- tail says he is not to be trifled with.

I don't know which model Hobie this is, Hobie makes a lot of them, and I think you pedal, not paddle, all of them kinda like a bicycle.

Growing up with boats in Miami Florida I see a glaring problem with this kayak, and that is "freeboard," or more precisely the lack thereof. Freeboard is defined as, the distance from the water to the lowest part of the boat that can take on water.

In South Florida where the alligators grow so mean, not to mention big, an alligator wouldn't have to bother climbing into this Hobie with you, the alligator could effortlessly slide into your boat with you. And since there isn't enough room in the boat for both of you, either you or the gator is going to have to go.... And the gator always wins that discussion.

It's been a fun weekend for Dad camping with the family, but it's Sunday now, and it's all come to an end. The family's beat, the kids are complaining, and the dog is acting like he's going to throw up.

Dad, nursing his last beer, a little  sunburned, and with thoughts of going back to work tomorrow morning starting to creep into his mind, still has to pack up the car for the hour and a half drive home.

After unpacking the car at home, only then will he be able to finally plop down in his easy chair and relax before the daily routine of eating, sleeping, and going back to work, resume.

Dad doesn't know it yet, and probably wouldn't believe it if you told him. But when he's old, and his kids are grown, he will look back and remember these weekends with the kids, as the best days of his life.
