Find the South Monticello unit of Elephant Butte State Park. Now follow the entrance road back to Interstate 25. At the Interstate the road is named Martin Ranch Road but as it moves along it gets new names twice. Anyway both side have loads of BLM free camping. Zoom in and you can find campers in several places along that road. If I recall correctly it is about 20 minutes to the Tor C Walmart from campsite 4. There is lots of square miles of BLM land in the area. I have spent about a month total in several visits exploring the area.

Thanks for that Barney. The boondocking areas up on the Ridge overlooking the Lake where I normally like to be have been getting more crowded over the years and I've been needing a nearby area in case that areas full. I should be there tomorrow and if I can't find an empty boondocking spot up on the ridge I'll drive over to Martin ranch road and see what it looks like. And if I find a spot up on the ridge I'll drive over to the Martin ranch road area first chance I get to see what's going on.

The west side of I-25 up in that area is also miles of BLM free land but I have not explored most of it so I cannot advise about its usefulness for your situation.

Thanks Barney, since I plan on being there two weeks I'll have plenty of time to check that out also.

I have never stayed there, but what is your information on Pancho Villa State Park south of Deming?

Since I have friends who have been to all three parks multiple times but I've never heard of Martin Ranch Rd I think I'd pick that one.

Crowds have been one of the hallmarks of my entire winter travels this year and it's getting so I just expect to have trouble finding a spot in places that everybody knows about, and especially in the state parks.
