The family goes for a walk

If you can click a pic and say I've done a job that's good, then pics around the world will want to join the brotherhood.

The trail through Waterton Canyon is actually a dirt road that is used by park employees that deal with the river. But for the most part the road is full of hikers, bikers and walkers.

The family and I walked up a hiking trail this morning next to the South Platte River, which feeds the Chatfield Reservoir, where Chatfield State Park is located. The State Park is only two or three miles from their house, and it has a campground, playgrounds, beaches, fishing, RC airplane flying area, hiking trails, paddleboard areas, and horseback rides.

We only went a little way since my reason for the walk was to get a few pictures for the blog, and I've never been all that thrilled about walking on well-worn paths with a hundred other people and bicycles whizzing by. I also didn't want to get too far from civilization because the grandkids were small, and I wasn't sure they would have the strength to carry me back to the car.

My youngest son visited me yesterday; it's easy for him because he only lives 70 or 80 miles away in the town where I used to live, and my oldest son is coming to visit me next Monday. He lives in Montana now, so I only see him sometimes.

My youngest son carried some stuff out of the trailer for me and put it in the storage room, which is fairly close to where he lives. Getting a lot of things out of the trailer is making life easier for me because now there's not much for me to take out of the trailer anymore.

My most pressing problem at the moment is figuring out where I will store the stuff I've taken out of the trailer and put in the Lance. I think I've got about 80% of the stuff that I want to keep laying in the Lance right now, and once I get it all in here, then I can go through it all and decide what I want to take with me and what I need to get rid of, all the while paying attention to the ever-increasing weight of the Lance.

It was a beautiful cloudless day with temperatures in the mid-70s, just perfect for the walk.

I was somewhat concerned that I might have to carry one or both of them back to the car. But when the walk ended they appeared to be in better shape than I was.

Some folks find a reason to load themselves up like a pack-mule. I figure if I loaded myself up like that the kids would have trouble dragging my lifeless carcass back to the car.

There was some pretty scenery in the Canyon, and I'll show some more pics tomorrow.

I had a feeling I was being watched.

After walking over three miles we finally made it back to the car. I was amazed that the grandkids could walk that far and not only keep up with the adults but quite often stay ahead of us. They appeared to be taking two steps for every one I took, but they still kept up.

The road we were on was a geological anomaly since it was up hill in both directions, or at least it felt that way to me.
