The Memorial Day holiday.... You know I love it.

Clicking the pics is a good way to start your summer travel season.

This afternoon will be the official beginning of the Memorial Day holiday and the start of the summer travel season. When folks get off from work this afternoon, they will be on their way to the High Country, where they will be packed together in great herds of humanity surrounded by barbecue smoke and overflowing state parks. With music blaring from every outdoor speaker on any RV new enough to be cursed with that infernal invention. The contractor generators will be roaring, the kids will be screaming, the dogs will be barking, and overworked and underpaid Park Rangers will be doing their best to keep the power drinkers and alcoholics from ruining everybody's experience in the park.

Meanwhile, I will still be in Denver, happily ensconced in the Arctic Fox, almost completely alone in my daughter's driveway, since everyone else will be in the High Lonesome, which this time of year, remains high but far from lonesome, enjoying the peace and quiet.

My daughter and my son-in-law are going to a casino in the mountains to spend some time away from their jobs. The Kids will be dropped off at their cousins' house, and my job is to watch after the house and feed the dog. So it sounds like I'm going to have a much better time than all those people eating incinerated hot dogs, and flaming marshmallows in the mountains....

Although I have to admit, when I was raising kids I ate more than my share of incinerated hot dogs and flaming marshmallows; without giving much thought to the lasting memories being made in the kids lives.

My grandson must be real careful when he walks down the stairs to the kitchen, because sometimes Poppa is waiting down there to surreptitiously take his picture. But I tricked him this time, because he didn't know what surreptitiously meant. Gotcha!

Be careful you do not let all the house sitting overwhelm your relaxing.

Years of relaxing under extremely difficult conditions has made it easy for me to relax virtually anywhere, under any amount of pressure, including taking responsibility for an entire house, and a living thing.... If you can actually call this dog a living thing.

Well, you do have the dog to deal with, which if I recall correctly, you described as not really qualifying as a DOG. Once again, I am entranced with those kids. I'm usually not....entranced with kid photos. Anyway, you departed from normal procedure yesterday and named a flower. Right away, to start off with. I wonder if you will continue with that to include birds as well. Guess we'll find out.

Yes Judith the family dog is indeed a needy creature and needs more coddling than the grandkids do. Thank you for being entranced with the grandkids, I'm rather entranced myself. I know a lot of folks have grandkids, in fact a lot of folks have a lot of grandkids. But I've only got two so they're very special to me.

I believe that my pervasive and all-encompassing knowledge of all things flora and fauna, not to mention flotsam and jetsam, would be too powerful to unleash on the Internet all at one time. So every once in a while I will release a tiny taste of my expansive knowledge of botanicals and all things avian, to whet the appetite of anyone with a thirst for knowledge, but hopefully without shocking the scientific world into rewriting the entire history of civilization.
