The price of regular gas in New Zealand is around $12.00 per gallon. Of course the country is so small, we can't drive very far anyway. :) Nancy

So nice to hear from you Nancy, I hope things are going well in New Zealand. I don't know how in the world you all can afford to put gas in your cars at that price. I would assume you don't have too many RVs over there that get 10 miles to the gallon.

While the RVs tend to be smaller because the roads are very narrow, there is a lively full and part time RV community here. Freedom Camping (Boondocking in the USA) is very popular. Here is a facebook page of freedom campers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1686871161557612/

I suppose narrow roads would prevent a lot of folks from buying gigantic class "A" motorhome's.

I read that link you so kindly provided Larry, and it definitely paints a bleak picture of RVing in the future, or at least the kind of RVing I enjoy, which can be summed up with the authors statement “go where you want, when you want.”

I agree that experienced long term boon dockers such as you will be able to continue RV with few modifications of their life style. The primary impact will be in the area's close to population centers and during the summer when school is out. The weekenders and vacationers will over populate those area's. The RV industry was provided a big boost due to COVID but when that pendulum swings back due to economic factors the industry hasn't done well. Who knows what will happen.

One of the reasons it's so easy for me to long-term boondock is because I live and travel predominately in the West, and the West has plenty of public land that is available for boondocking. And from what I know of the South, where I spent half my life, finding places to boondock is much more difficult, not impossible, but difficult. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
