It's calmed down a lot around here since yesterday, the last people pulled out of here about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon and I guess by now they've all run to Mesa. In a way I kinda miss the whole event, not the part about waking up at four in the morning, but all the excitement and joy that it brought to this little patch of Boondocking area. Those kids were having such a good time laughing, and yelling, and cheering on their teammates that you couldn't help but be caught up in the event. Some of them were wearing silly costumes, I saw bunny rabbits and penguins, and most of them had decorated the vans that their team was traveling in with their team names, things like the Foxy Ladies and the Killer Twinkies, whose motto was[ Run, Eat, Die, Repeat. ] I'm not sure why us old geezers don't get happy like that anymore. Maybe it's because of our aches and pains, or maybe it's because were jaded and feel like we've been everywhere and done it all so there's nothing really new to get excited about, or maybe were afraid we would look silly like those kids did. But Sometimes maybe it doesn't hurt to be silly even if you're an old geezer like me.

I woke up at 4 o'clock this morning hearing voices pretty close to the Arctic Fox, and when your Boondocking that's something that will get your attention pretty quick. I peeked out the window and saw the lights from two vehicles and four or five people standing around talking. Of Course its pitch black outside so I can't see much of anything so I go back to bed.
I can't get back to sleep because vehicles are still coming into where I'm boondocked and the place is getting noisier and noisier so I just lay there until the sun comes up enough for me to see. About 6 o'clock I go outside and there are vans and SUV's everywhere, along with many dozens of people. I asked the girl standing next my steps what was going on and she told me that there runners and their running from Wickenburg to Mesa Arizona, which is 200 miles using the back roads that they're running on, and where I'm boondocked just happens to be the end of the first leg of the race, oh lucky me. She also tells me that it's a staggered start so runners will be stopping where I'm boondocked until about 4 o'clock this afternoon. Now I've always felt that if you want to enjoy full-timeing in an RV it really helps to be flexible and try to deal with whatever life throws at you in a positive way. So instead of opening the door and yelling " GET OFF MY LAWN", which was the first way that crossed my mind to handle the situation, I got my camera and started taking pictures and talking to people. Most of these folks were college kids from various schools around the area, and it was kind of nice to talk to people that had more to talk about than their last operation. theboondork I was walking around Box Wash this morning and saw a van load of Maricopa County employees, and since I had heard a rumor that Box Wash was going to become a Maricopa County Park this looked like the perfect time to find out whether or not there would still be Boondocking at box wash.
I went over and started talking to them, and sure enough, they were like a transition team dealing with the transfer from the BLM. They were very nice, answered all my questions about what was going on and sure enough sometime in the near future Box Wash will become a day use Park and a County run campground. The young lady that I was talking to told me that one of the reasons this is happening is that the BLM doesn't have the money to take care of the people's land that they were put in charge of, and doing trades and deals with other government agencies is a way that they can save money. I believe this because the young lady I was talking to seem to be one of the Maricopa County employees that's involved in dealing directly with the BLM. I personally find this situation both sad and disturbing. I don't doubt at all that the Department of Interior doesn't have enough money to operate effectively. I also have no doubts that the Washington politicians are, giving away, throwing away, wasting, and at times even stealing the huge amount of taxes that they're taking from us every year. And very little of that tax money ends up going for things that the American people really want and need. I jump up on my soapbox and face the crowd,...... There's an election coming up this year and I believe the American people need to stop basing their voting decisions on how someone looks or how slick their speech is, and base your decisions on what the politician has actually done in the past, and what their political party has done when they have been in charge of anything. It's not rocket science folks, just spend a few minutes googling up the most dangerous cities in America, and the cities in America that are the most deeply in debt, and the cities whose schools are failing miserably, and see who's been running them for a long time. If the people who have been running those places for decades are Democrats then don't vote for Democrats, and if the people who have been running those places for decades are Republicans then don't vote for Republicans. I repeat, base your decision on what politicians and their political parties have DONE and not what they SAY they're going to do. It's as simple as that. theboondork |
