After reading the problems, the old fat man is having in his post of September 15 at the RV Park, he's staying in with an increase in prices, and rules being changed that don't benefit people wanting to stay there. I believe there will be more of that behavior taking place at RV parks all over the country, and here's why.

Campgrounds are a business, and Campsites are their product. One way you get a fair deal at a campground is when there's a balance between that particular business wanting to sell its product and a customer, in this case, a camper, wanting to buy it. If that balance is upset, it can lead to an even better deal for the customer, usually a lower price, or it can lead to a much better deal for the business and much higher profits.

Right now, we're starting to experience the balance tilting in favor of the campground business. Not drastically... Yet, and not in every area of the country... Yet. But the signs are that tilt will continue in favor of the campgrounds, and more than likely get worse until something comes along to change it. Which logic would say might be us baby boomers slowly dying off since we are the largest consumers of RVs.

 As long as there is a glut of RVers, and a limited supply of campgrounds, a lot of RVers will be put in the unenviable position of having to almost beg for a campsite and pay whatever the campground owners demand. And the campground owners, which by the way, are very good at lobbying the government, flush with newfound money due to campground price increases will make sure that more and more free camping opportunities are closed. And local governments make it extremely difficult to build new campgrounds, using environmental protection laws to stifle any competition.

As usual, I've rambled on for too long, which I often tend to do when I'm writing about something that interests me. And the way business works with supply and demand, I've always found fascinating. So I'll write more about this subject tomorrow since there's not much of interest going on in my life at the moment .

This old abandoned Victorian home in Silverton had a strange flickering glow coming from an attic dormer window that was just bright enough to attract my attention.

Silverton like most boom towns has many stories to tell. Some stories are of sudden wealth accompanied by incredible joy, others of crushing sadness and despair. Is that bluish glow in what was once a wealthy man's home a clue to some terrible tragedy that happened there long ago? Or is it a vestige of a troubled soul that will not, or cannot, leave that dreary attic.

Something happened that caused that beautiful old home to be abandoned and left to decay. Could it be the mysterious glow coming from the attic is responsible for no one wanting to live there anymore? Is there someone or something in the house that prevents anyone from restoring it and bringing life back into the darkened windows? Does the wealthy mine owner that had this home built 100 years ago refuse to give it up to the living?

I guess one way to find out is to spend a few nights there sleeping in the attic.... If you decide to do that, let me know how things turned out.
