A Doddering old geezer.... And no, this is not about politics

 I always figured I would never get old. As long as I just acted young, relatively speaking, I would never be like regular old geezers that dodder around all day, tripping and falling over a paperclip, forgetting where they are, and complaining about everything and everybody. And I did a pretty good job of it, but aging is a losing battle no matter how hard you try.

There's not much any of us geezers can do about our forgetfulness, or our never-ending aches and pains, or walking outside without our pants... Or is that just me? But there are some things we do have control over, and I do my best to fix what I can, ignore what I can't, and keep my complaints to myself. And one of those things I have at least some control over is the depth of my "rut."

It seems all old folks get into a rut to one depth or another, and it's not just us geezers, there's plenty of young people in a rut, but it's the depth of the rut that separates us old folks from everyone else.

I've always felt that doing the same thing over and over is perfectly natural, but it can't be good for you. Animals do the same thing repeatedly as a survival mechanism; if they find food in one area, they go back to that area again and again. And there's still a lot of that feeling in us modern humans, which is why we often still do the same things over and over again.

But animals are mostly just looking for a full belly, but we humans need a mental challenge, or we tend to stagnate and lose our will to do anything more than the same thing we did yesterday and the day before as our rut gets deeper and deeper.

A lot more than a few folks enjoy being in a rut and wouldn't want to live any other way. Doing the same things every day gives them a sense of comfort that everything's the way it was, and the way it was is the way it should be. And since their life is normal, why would they want to change anything? And their right, because for them, it works.

But for some folks, even geezers like me, dealing with change, overcoming challenges and adversity is what keeps me feeling alive. Is that normal? Probably not. But I will talk about it more tomorrow because I don't have much else to write about as I get ready to take a mini-vacation in a few days.

Like most RVs there are two ways to fill the water tank on the bronco. One way is to have a nearby faucet so I can stick my water hose in the fill pipe where you see the orange funnel, which is the quick and easy way. But when your boondocking filling up with water is not always quick and easy.

The other way is to fill my water tank with 1 gallon jugs of water, or my 5 gallon container of water. I know you can't tell from the picture but that funnel is above my head so whatever I'm pouring in the funnel has to be light enough that I can hold it up there for a while till it empties. And that is not as easy as it sounds especially without spilling any on my head.

But being as extraordinarily lazy as I am, and not enjoying lifting a 40 pound container of water over my head, I started working on this project  today.

That water pump sitting on the ground is the spare one I carry for the Arctic Fox. It's a 12 volt pump of course, so I wired up a 12 volt cigarette lighter plug to the outside of the bronco so I can plug in the pump whenever I need to. And with a short three foot long intake hose, to stick in a water container , and a 7 foot long discharge hose that will go in the bronco's fill pipe where the orange funnel is, I'll be able to pump water out of my 5 gallon container into the Broncos water tank quickly and easily while sipping a mint julep in the shade of a Saguaro.
