I spent the day at the zoo and had a great time, it was good to see everyone again and it reminded me how much I had missed everybody. The weather cooperated and the day was beautiful.
Even though I was at the zoo I took very few animal pictures, most of the pictures I took were of the family especially my grandson. You know how zoos are, the animals are either hiding, or behind a fence that blocks the cameras view, or their sleeping in plain view but they look like a hairy blob. So in my opinion you have to be pretty lucky to get a decent picture of an animal in a zoo.

The elephant area Cheyenne Mountain zoo
The Cheyenne Mountain zoo is built on the side of a hill and it's up high enough that you get a very nice view of the city of Colorado Springs. I also took a picture of the Broadmoor Hotel complex which is a fancy-schmancy hotel where all the rich folks stay. Even the President when he comes to town stays at the Broadmoor. I'm quite sure they wouldn't let me in the door, or even park in the parking lot for fear some dirt might fall off of my truck and soil the tires of some big shots Mercedes. Truth is that I had much rather stay in my little Arctic Fox than the presidential suite at the Broadmoor, because not only am I more comfortable but I believe I'm around better people.

I sure got sidetracked their but I'm back now. The Cheyenne Mountain zoo is fun to visit, it's in a beautiful location and its very compact so you don't have to walk for miles to see all the animals. A lot of the animals are behind Moats, or behind glass so you don't have to look at bars and cages all day long.

If I was going again I would definitely go on a weekday because it was packed. They have a very large parking area but by the time we left people were driving around waiting for somebody to leave to have a place to park.

One warning, the food there was very expensive. You could make sandwiches out of California Condors cheaper than a hamburger at the zoo. My advice would be to bring your own food or wait till you leave to eat.
