I was reading the instructions for installing my Renogy solar panels the other day and came across one line that said if you cut off the factory installed MC4 connector from the solar panel it will void your warranty. Since I was planning on not using the MC4 connectors and using butt splicing or some other low-tech means of connecting the wires I now had to rethink things.
This wasn't a problem when I installed the first two panels because I had to use an extension wire that I bought from Amazon that had a MC4 connector already installed that would mate up with the solar panel MC4 connector. Not wanting to void my warranty I figured the best thing to do was use my spare MC4 connectors and hook those to the solar panels with a short piece of wire instead of cutting the solar panel wire.
Those of you with a photographic memory may recall that I ordered some extra MC4 connectors when I installed the first two solar panels and should have those laying around somewhere.... And I do, I just don't know where that somewhere is.
This happens to me every time I put something in a place where I won't forget where it is, because I immediately forget where it is. I've looked in all the places I should've put something like that, and apparently I didn't put it where I should've put it. Then I looked in all the places I could've put it, but apparently didn't. Then I checked out all the places I wouldn't have put it, and this time I was right.... I didn't.
So after spending hours of my precious relaxing time looking for something that had apparently been beamed aboard a passing Alien spacecraft I gave up and ordered another pack of five MC4 connectors from Amazon figuring they would send me The connectors long before I could ever find the ones that I already have.
I've considered making a list of where I put everything, I'll bet Amazon has a list like that and the list is probably 18 miles long which would make the list pretty easy to find. But my list would be considerably smaller than that and I would be amazed if I remembered where I put it. I'm sure there's a lesson to be learned from this, but for the life of me I can't Imagine what it would be.
I was right, Amazon did send me some MC4 connectors before I could find the ones that I have. now where can I put these so I will always be able to find them?
