A near-death experience?

Clicking the pics is a good way to appreciate a beautiful sunset without actually being here.

I was blessed with a  pretty sunset here at Picacho State Park last night, since I was fortunate enough to be here when there were a few clouds in the sky.

I wanted to take a walk on some of the trails in the area, but I didn't get a chance to do that yesterday, so I re-upped for another night at Picacho State Park.

Since it's crowded at this State Park but not full, I wonder if it's because it's close to Christmas and everybody's off doing Christmasy things instead of camping out. I hope that's it, so at least I won't have to deal with too many people in my travels until I can get to the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tucson, where there's plenty of room for me to boondock without being affected by the hundreds of people that will be there in the full hookup areas.

It was pretty chilly last night, getting down to 29° by my thermometer. But I have electric hookup here at the State Park, so I was able to use my electric heater all last night, so I stayed warm. And since it's in the mid-60s with single-digit humidity in the daytime, I've managed to stay pretty comfortable.

I'm still planning on heading for Tombstone tomorrow and looking forward to it. Tombstone often has events during some months, but I don't see anything going on during December when I'll be there. I think maybe the Christmas season is their downtime when people are more interested in spending time with their families than visiting a tourist town.

I couldn't get a very good sunset picture at my campsite so had to drive around to the other side of Picacho peak to get some decent sunset pictures.

Fortunately it's only about a mile away from the campground to this trailhead parking area, which  also happens to be, a good place to get a sunset picture.

Picacho state Park campground. Notice the very nice van camped just down the street from me. Everywhere I go I see very nice vans. Until I turn around, look at my campsite and see the bronco... EWWW!

This morning when it was just barely light enough to see, I went outside and hopped up on my picnic table to take a picture of the rising Sun. And it just so happens it was light enough to see the picnic table, but not light enough to know that it was covered with frost.

As my slippers touched the tabletop, both feet went in several directions at once, including directions that haven't been invented yet, [I now know why they call them SLIPPERS] and the only thing that saved me from certain death was my catlike agility and many years of rollerskating.

Normally the only thing I worry about when I'm wandering around the desert in the dark is stepping on a rattlesnake, but now I have something that came a lot closer to sending me to Boot Hill than any rattlesnake ever did.
