You can tell by the marquee that this was once a movie theater. Many an evil bad guy, and many a monster, met their well deserved fate inside this old building.
This morning I went back to the old downtown area of Del Rio to take a few more pictures. Sunday mornings are a good time to go downtown because quite often there all but deserted. You don't have cars parked in front of the stores blocking up your view. And you can park anywhere for a few minutes and jump out and take a picture.
One of the things that I wanted to take a picture of that I had missed the last time, was the old movie theater. When I was growing up downtown was where all of the shopping was located, and on the weekends anybody and everybody was downtown. And to a kid like me one of the most important things that was downtown, was the movie theater.
Looking back on it that doesn't seem like a good place to put a movie theater because of the lack of parking. But everybody was downtown anyway so I guess it didn't matter.
I think I just wanted to look in the window of the movie theater in the old downtown area of Del Rio because of the memories I had of going to the movies as a kid, And remember what it was like to sit in a dark movie theater with one screen and a balcony, and watch Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Lash LaRue ride across the silver screen again on horses that never got tired and needed to be fed, shooting Colt six guns that would hold a minimum of 14 rounds each, and knowing that good was always going to conquer evil. It sure would be nice if life was that simple today.
I don't know what this building might have been, but it was across the street from the train station and was built very sturdy.
Another sturdy downtown building that no one has a use for any more. By the looks of the for sale sign, the owner might be very motivated by now.
This building looks like it once held a thriving business.
