Yep you have it just right now. Leaving time to meander while going to the next planned place is an exceptionally worthwhile effort in my opinion. I will not meander heading back to Rockport for the flounder run. But I have been seeing everything between for decades since my ex-wife was from north Alabama also. I am hoping to get 2-3 months of meandering between Del Rio and central New Mexico in early 2021 if the weather allows it.

I didn't know Flounder could run, they always looked more like a crawling fish to me. But no matter how they get around they sure are tasty.

Sounds like a great plan to me.

Fortunately for me I don't like making too many plans if I can help it, so I'm pretty good at deciding what to do on the fly. it usually doesn't matter much to me where I'm going, or how I get there as long as its warm.

My favorite way to RV was to pick a road to follow then wander along it stopping and starting as the mood struck. I had lists of things we could do along said road if they felt right when we were at that part. For me, that was the best of all worlds--having a direction without a schedule.

The temperature has been the most important thing to me because I'm happiest when it's warm. But there are as many ways of enjoying RVing as they are people doing it. but the very best way has always been.... Your own way.

As full timers, we basically spent summers in Minnesota, winters in Arizona, and the rest of time following various roads. It took us 36 travel days, spread over parts of three months when you include non-travel days, to travel Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica in the autumn of 2008. A trip like that needs to include non-travel days to get some rest and do household chores.

Wow! I'm impressed, and I'm not easily impressed. A trip like that is the dream of most route 66 aficionados. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
