A very windy day

It was very windy today. It was blowing a steady 20 mph for most of the day, with gusts even higher every once in a while. Unfortunately, that meant a lot of dust blew around, so I stayed inside for most of the day.

 I did have to get outside late in the morning and turn my truck around so it was facing the wind. Otherwise, the camper was rocking around to the point that I was afraid of getting seasick. Of course, I could have easily put my electric jack's down and steadied everything that way, but turning the truck facing into the wind was simpler, and fixed the problem.

Because of the wind, I didn't get over to the outdoor horse arenas, so I don't know what was happening over there. Maybe they don't want to have a contest with winds this high because horses are so easily spooked. Maybe they wouldn't jump over things like they're supposed to with the wind gusting like this.

One thing this wind did do is it prevented me from going out and taking any pictures, which explains the leftover pictures on today's blog.

The exceedingly rare Desert Blue Bat. These aren't the kind of Chinese Bats that carry the Kung Fu Flu. These Bats are perfectly harmless unless you're a pelican, which happens to be their favorite food. Or if you happen to be wearing anything blue. They hate that color and will ferociously attack anything they see that's blue, which largely explains why their so rare.

These are step stools that are used by the Hunter Jumper folks to get on their horses. I don't need a stool like this because I'm smart enough not to get on a horse. No one really knows why they need a step-stool to mount a horse, I don't recall Roy Rogers, or Matt Dillon or even John Wayne needing a step-stool to get on their horse, but Hunter Jumpers do.

There are several thoughts on why this is the case, some people think it's because the horses legs are too long, others think the girls legs are too short, but having personal experience working a critical job at a prestigious Hunter Jumper boarding stable I happen to know, after helping many girls mount their horses; it's because to have the proper form for riding a Hunter Jumper horse the stirrups are adjusted very high so your legs are bent a lot more than riding a cowboy style saddle, so the stirrups are very high off the ground and hard-to-reach with your foot when mounting the horse.

A large flock of Red-Winged Blackbirds milling about in the sky. I tried to count them while they were up there but I kept losing count every time I got to three.
