This is the unofficial beginning of the Easter holiday at Elephant Butte State Park. Later this afternoon, when folks start getting off work, a few Easter holiday revelers will start coming into the Park for their three-day weekend. I know it's not an official three-day weekend, but when I had a job, it was pretty common to call in "sick" on a weekend holiday to stretch out the holiday as long as possible.

It will start as a trickle just before dark when I'll start seeing a handful of RVs setting up to boondock on the beach. At first, they'll be spread out, although I'm not sure why; folks are pretty much going to fill up the beach anyway. One of the main problems of boondocking on the beach, besides the possibility of getting stuck in the sand, is getting your RV level.

The beach has a fairly serious slope down towards the water, and just about anything you try to put under your tires to raise them up to level, the camper will slowly sink into the sand. So it's fairly common to do the opposite and dig holes for your high side tires to sit in.

Tomorrow things will get a lot busier. Traffic will pick up substantially driving past my boondocking spot because most of the people coming to the Elephant will be headed for the beach to boondock instead of the hookup campground, and the boondocking sites on Ridge Road where I'm at have been filled up for days.
