Well I stayed another day, the Winds are horrendous and there's supposed to be a snow storm hitting Flagstaff tonight, good thing I'm not in a hurry. The extra time here has given me a chance to see the Indian ruins that Homolovi State park was designed to protect. It's hard to believe hundreds and hundreds of people lived here in the middle of nowhere, but apparently in the 1200s the Anasazi people were here and built these pueblos that had upwards of 2000 rooms which are now just piles of rubble. It's hard for me to envision what it looked like then but the man hours to build it must've been incredible, one wonders how they had time to find or grow food. But the Anasazi under incredibly difficult conditions managed to accomplish all that but here we are 800 years later and the place still doesn't have Wi-Fi. To me the most interesting thing to look at is all of the pottery shards and broken pieces of flint that litter the ground. I mean it's everywhere, and I guess when it rains even more is uncovered so there's never a shortage of broken pottery. The park has been a great place to stay, and the Rangers have been interesting to talk to. And even though the park doesn't have the spectacular ruins that other places have, here you can walk by yourself into the ruins and be able to touch pieces of the lives of these ancient people.I would recommend stopping by if you're ever in the neighborhood.

I had a fun day today, I stopped at the painted Desert national Park and spent three or four hours looking around and taking pictures. I've been to this park before but I was always in a hurry and didn't stay very long, but this time I stayed as long as I wanted and took pictures of everything that I wanted a picture of. The weather was perfect and there was very few people at the park, so I would say early November is a great time to visit this national park. The views are the same that you would see in the summer but in early November there's nobody there but you and five other people. Sometimes it's hard to get a picture of national Park without other people in it, but today was great I could take pictures in any direction and seldom see a person. And the fact that I have a senior pass and get in for free helped make it a great day. I'm staying tonight at the Homolovi state park just outside of Winslow Arizona, it's only $25 a night and has some neat things to see. When I got there this afternoon I walked about half a mile to look at this old cemetery that's in the park. It's called the Sunset Cemetery and was built by the Mormons back in the 1870s when they built a fort here. That whole plan seemed to be a bad idea and they were only here for about a year before their crops failed and their fort washed away in a flood, and now there's nothing left but the little cemetery. I'm hoping I can leave tomorrow but the weather is supposed to be bad. There's a cold front coming through and it's supposed to be very windy tomorrow, if it is I will stay here another day. There's still some Indian ruins that I haven't seen yet.
