I've just been reconnecting with all the folks I know at the gun range, it's always good to see everybody again. I'm taking a few pictures to let everybody see what the place looks like, it's a very nice shooting facility easily the nicest in Arizona. I'm staying at the shotgun sports part of the range but half a mile away they also have a pistol, rifle and archery range. Here's something most people have never seen before, lots of people have seen trap ranges, skeet ranges and sporting clay courses but Ben Avery's has something called bunker trap and most people have never heard of it. But there's a very good reason why most people have never heard of it. Now you would think that any sport that is an Olympic sport would be something that people would be familiar with, but not in this case. You see bunker trap is the shotgun sport that the whole world shoots at the Olympics and in a lot of other countries bunker trap is fairly common, some places even have indoor ranges for bunker trap because being an Olympic sport it's a big deal. But in America there are some people that don't want any shooting sport glorified or even recognized, so the highly skilled young American men and women who win medals in this sport are not celebrated, barely recognized, and often not even mentioned. They deserve better.

The weather has finally cleared up, the winds have died down, And the only snow I can see is on the mountains at Flagstaff but it's still bitter cold. Flagstaff got about 10 inches of snow and set a record for this time of year, but the roads are clear so I'm on my way. Once I got a few miles south of Flagstaff the snow went away and it started to look more like a desert. The temperatures got up into the 60s and it felt more like the Arizona I'm used to. I decided to stay at Ben Avery's gun range for a week, I know folks there, and I've stayed there enough that it feels like home. The campground there is for shooters only so I fit right in and the prices are reasonable. Well it's Wednesday and I'm still here. It snowed like a bat in Flagstaff last night and here in Winslow it's still cloudy, cold, and rainy, oh and did I mention Windy? Very windy? I didn't go outside much today, too cold to windy, so I mostly stayed in and watched the weather on TV and straightened up the trailer some more. I think I'm finally getting the inside of the trailer under control. Most things now have a place to be and things that don't are in imminent danger of being thrown away. I haven't had Internet for three days, Ive got Internet on my phone but I can't seem to work on my blog on the phone, I gave it a try but I ended up messing up some things and spent a lot of time repairing the damage I did. So it looks like I've got a lot of work to do and a lot to learn about how to use my phone to work on my website. |
