Are the tourists still in Colorado or not?

A cloudy day in the neighborhood,

Typical late summer weather nowadays. Some days in the 80s, some days in the 90s, but the humidity is pretty low, so it's all tolerable.

I don't pay too much attention to the Bat flu anymore, I guess I'm getting used to it. I wear a mask when I go to the store, as does everyone else around here, so it seems like a normal part of life now. I seldom read about what's going on in the Bat flu world nowadays; there's not much I can do about it. Other than self-isolating out in the desert again, I'm doing about all there is I can do.

They say there's gonna be a vaccine developed before the end of the year. Still, I'm not sure it will be offered to the population at large, maybe just to the most vulnerable. But I'm not sure I would take it anyway. I doubt it will be 100% effective, it would surprise me if it's 50% effective, especially since it's being rushed out and can't be long term tested. I can still remember the "Cutter incident" in regards to the Salk polio vaccine, so I think I'll wait and not be a guinea pig on this one.

For a while now, I've been talking about how the second weekend of August is generally when the tourists start pulling out of Colorado and heading back from whence they came. And I've expressed concern that maybe that wasn't going to happen this year because of the Bat flu and many schools not opening up. But I'm happy to report that things are normal, after all.

I got on the Internet and checked two of the Colorado state parks close to me and lo and behold they both had some empty sites available next week, and half the campground is empty the week after that. Because of the Bat flu, Colorado state parks campgrounds have been reservations only all summer, so those availabilities are real.

This is excellent news because it means that now I can go camping in Colorado without concern about finding a place to stay. Happy days are here again.

Yea! Things are looking up for traveling. That dog is also looking up. Either it likes you, or you had a treat in hand. Very fierce critter for sure. Glad you emerged alive from the phototaking.

Traveling is looking a lot better. I was worried for a while all the tourist were going to overstay their welcome but they have wisely decided to go home and bore their friends and relatives will stories of their struggles and adventures in the largely untamed Rocky mountains of Colorado.

Yes the family dog is a little on the sissy side, but my daughter grew up with German shepherds and dogs like that and she always wanted a little purse size dog that couldn't boss her around like the German Shepherd did. So now she's got this critter and if she had another one just like it they could be ear rings.

We stayed up in West Magnolia Campground last week near Nederland in a camper van. There were several free sites available everyday while we were there. We stayed in 3 different sites during the week to have different views. Saw a moose at one site wander by.

Glad to hear you could find a place to stay. During the tourist season its largely a matter of being at the right place at the right time. And since national forest campsites can vary drastically in how well their cared for and the road conditions to them which often determines how popular they are. I've never been to that camping area because I'm not usually in the Arapahoe national forest.

Seeing a Moose a real catch. As long as I've lived in Colorado I've only seen one. I guess I don't go to enough Moosie areas.

Yeah I was worried for a while the tourist might stay longer than normal, but they're leaving right on time.

Now I can start thinking about a minivacation down to southern Colorado, and kind of an odd thing that I would like to do when I get there.

Not too far from Silverton Colorado, which is where I would be heading, is the little town of Ridgeway. And Ridgeway and some areas around Ridgeway is where parts of the John Wayne film "True Grit" was filmed. And I would be thrilled to death to stand in some of the places where John Wayne stood and take pictures of the places where the movie was shot. Those places still exist and there relatively easy to get to so I'm looking forward to hopefully being able to do that.
