Back to the Pima County Fairgrounds?

Well, it looks like it's time for me to say goodbye to the Sandhill Cranes and mosey on down the road. I wasn't sure where I should go, so when in doubt, I usually end up in one of two places, Quartzite or the Pima County Fairgrounds. And looking at the event schedule for next week at the Pima County Fairgrounds, it seems like there will be three different horse events going on, one of which is a barrel race, so I think I should check in to the fairgrounds for a week and take some more horse pictures. Plus, I need to order something from Amazon, and I can get things pretty quickly with one of their major warehouses being in Tucson.

I thought when I left here I was going to head for New Mexico, but the weather forecast for next week looks like New Mexico is still pretty chilly, if not downright cold. But I think if I cool my heels in Tucson for a week, maybe New Mexico's weather will be more tolerable.

One of my concerns is three different RV clubs will be there next week, so I'm not sure if they will have room for me, but RV clubs normally want full hookups, so I think I should be okay in the boondocking area. My other concern is all those horse events may require the boondocking area to fill up with horse trailers. But I need to go somewhere so I'll try the Fairgrounds first.

I've been working on my Sandhill Crane video for a while, and I had it about halfway done when I decided to head back to the Pima County Fairgrounds tomorrow morning. But I wanted to put out this video before I left, and since I'm running out of time I just sort of threw the rest of it together and its not exactly what I would call finished but I guess you could say I'm finished with it.

Hopefully I'll do better in the future, but at least this will show an unbelievable spectacle that nature has provided but seldom seen by most people, but I've been amazed by for the last few days. So click the link and watch Whitewater Draw.

I did click on the video...my internet connection has been very wonky the last two days, so I saw only about 4 minutes....and kept having to re-connect. I'll watch more later. But so far, I have delighted in hearing them. Used to hear that talking they do among themselves when they were flying high up in those long v's on their way to someplace in early spring or late fall. Lovely,
it's sort of a quiet talk, not reallyl squawky like a lot of what they do. Thanks. (Maybe I need a new router. I'll try to get it fixed manana.)
Hope you get a good site in Pima.

Yeah there definitely noisy birds. Then put 20,000 of them together and the racket is almost unbearable.

I remember the first time I heard a sandhill crane when I was in Colorado. I would hear them flying overhead but when I would come out of the bronco to see them, I could never see anything. Come to find out their voices carry for a great distance, I thought they were 100 feet away but actually they were so far away I couldn't see them, they just sounded like there were close by.

Hope you get your computer problem fixed, I would be totally lost without my computer, which is probably one of the reasons I have two with me all the time

Don't know what you are worried about. For You Tube videos, yours are excellent. I had kind of visualized what they might look like in flight from your pictures, but the video is much better. One thing most You Tube video suffers from is herky jerky camera work, oftentimes enough to make you sick. Yours was quite excellent and very smooth. I really did enjoy your video of the cranes and see why you made such an effort to go see them.

Thank you so much KennyD. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I've been heading back to the Pima County Fairgrounds this morning, and I'm now happily ensconced in the boondocking area.

There are two things that bothers me about YouTube videos I see. One is the sound is often too low, probably because I'm hard of hearing, and the other is the camera moving all over the place way too fast, just like you said

So I try to make sure that my sound is at least a little too high, because you can always turn it down. As for the camera motion, I can pan pretty smooth by hand, and while I'm panning I always have to tell myself to go really really slow, so slow you think it's too slow, but it probably still isn't slow enough.

Video does tell a better story, but I really enjoy taking photographs. To me making video is kinda hard work, and taking photographs I do for fun. So thanks for letting me know that my video had some value, but helps encourage me to make more.
