Desert sunrise.

Since I've run out of things I feel like doing here in Quartzsite at the moment, I've been packing up today and will probably leave tomorrow morning. Barney, "the old fat man," offered me some pertinent advice to "do it now." And since that appears to be the standard advice, he gives everyone for everything, needless to say; he won't be the one I turn to if I'm ever contemplating suicide.

Looking at the weather in the Lake Havasu, Laughlin, Nevada area, it seems pretty much the same as Quartzsite, the mid-70s for the next ten days with humidity in the teens. So heading North like I'll be doing isn't going to be much of a change as far as the weather is concerned.

It will be nice to be in an area where there are many more shopping options than I have in Quartzsite, and I won't have to drive 30 something miles to get to them. I've got a couple of projects I would like to do on the Arctic Fox, which requires some bits and pieces, so it will be useful to get to a place where there's a Home Depot.

 And speaking of no Home Depot. I miss Herbs Hardware Store here in Quartzsite. It wasn't a large place, but it specialized in RV stuff so I could always find oddball things that are hard to find in other places. The buildings are still boarded up and for sale.

It will also be nice to be around some water for a change. And since Lake Havasu and Laughlin are built on the Colorado River, I'll be able to dip my ten tiny toes in some water right out of the Colorado Rockies.

A very tall, and apparently somewhat lonely, Saguaro.

This is one of the exceedingly rare Mohave Desert Pelicans. This bird is seldom recognized by the average bird expert, most thinking it's a common Dove.

Mohave Desert Pelicans, just like all Pelicans, eat fish that they scoop up with their huge bill. But these Pelicans don't have a bill large enough to catch a fish, and there's no fish around here for them to catch, so this branch of the Pelican family is slowly starving itself out of existence.

An effort was made a few years back by a group of Birders to teach the pelicans to eat the indigenous Sand Sharks that infest the desert. But the Sand Sharks being six or eight feet long became rather annoyed at ten inch tall birds pecking at them, and further depleted the ranks of the Mojave Desert Pelican.

What better name for a desert tank than Sandy. Not very imaginative, but very apropos.
