Better weather?

Storrie Lake.

I'm trying to decide when to head down to the Bosque Del Apache. The weather has improved significantly from what it has been, but I'm not sure if I want to leave Sunday or Monday. On the other hand, I guess it doesn't make a difference, so I'll probably make up my mind on a morning when I wake up and feel like going somewhere.

It's been cold, windy, and snowy, often at the same time, since I've been on the road, it will be nice to get far enough South so it will be warm in the daytime and chilly enough to be good sleeping weather at night, but I don't know when that will be.

 I feel like I should hang around in the northern area of New Mexico and Arizona so the balloon rally won't be too far away in December. But unfortunately, most of the northern areas where I'll be can be cold and snowy. So I'm unsure how to balance out; where should I hang around to be near Gallup, New Mexico, and where can I find some warm weather? And with the price of diesel fuel being pretty high and the possibility of shortages looming, I would prefer not to be zigzagging all over the West.

Since the inclement weather is giving me plenty of time to sit and think, instead of going outside and doing things, I may need a "mission" for this winter; which means instead of wandering around aimlessly like I frequently do, I should have a reason to go someplace and do something. For instance, last winter living in the little bronco, my mission was to determine if I could live comfortably in such a small space. So I tried to do various things to expose any shortcomings of living in such a tiny space. And I guess I didn't find any  because here I am in the Lance.

So maybe with my concerns, either real or imagined, of facing diesel fuel problems, it's possible I need another mission to find a way to enjoy my winter travels as much as I always do while, at the same time, alleviating as many diesel fuel worries as I can... For instance, not zigzagging all over the West. Methinks you have not heard the last of my "mission."

This is the river that feeds Storrie Lake. When I was here last Spring it was dry as a bone, and now there's water pouring into the lake. I don't know where it came from, but I hope it continues because Storrie Lake was rapidly losing its title of Lake, and would soon become Storrie state Park.

Last Spring I walked in the bottom of this Canyon and there was no sign there had ever been any water here. Now I had to scramble up and down the sides to get any pictures.

I reckon someone that works at Storrie Lake state Park got the idea of trying out wind powered streetlights to save a little electricity. But since this is the only one I saw in the whole park, I'm assuming the concept didn't go well.

When I was putting solar panels on the Arctic Fox I investigated adding a wind generator also, but it was going to be too difficult to put up and take down whenever I moved so I gave up on the idea, and I'm glad I did.

After being around other people's wind generators I found out the noisy things are an annoyance not only to the RVer that bought them, but everyone else in the general area. The generator makes humming noises, the blades make noises, and the wind going through them makes noises. I learned not to park anywhere near them when I'm boondocking.
