I went to the Ace Hardware this morning and filled up one of my propane tanks. Even though the Ace Hardware store charges a lot for their propane I still go there for two basic reasons. 1, it's fairly close by and easy to get to. And 2, after 4 propane refills I get a free refill which is what happened today. It always feels good to walk away with 10 gallons of free propane, especially if there's no one yelling, hey you! Come back here! like they usually do.
Since I was in the area getting propane I drove across the street to Big O tires and talked to them about doing some work for me. I used to buy my tires from Discount Tire, and still would in a heartbeat, as they've always treated me great, and you can find a store almost anywhere. But when I went full-time I bought a set of Michelin truck tires from Big O and have been very satisfied with them also.
But I have found out that Big O is kind of handy because they do more than just sell tires, they will also do oil changes, and fuel filter changes which is very useful to a full timer like myself. Before I went full-time I did most of that stuff because I had a garage and the equipment to quickly and easily do those things and doing it myself was not only a big money saver, but I trusted my work and knew it was done right, so the only reason I went back to Discount Tire was to have them do my free tire rotation every 5000 miles. But now I don't have everything I need to do those jobs quickly and easily, so I'd rather pay someone else to do it and hope they do it right.
The main things I do to the truck every year is, rotate the tires, change the oil and oil filter, and change the fuel filter. And if I can have all that done in one place it really simplifies my life, because what I did last year was have Walmart change my oil, Big O rotated my tires, and I changed the fuel filter. But Thursday morning I'm taking the truck to Big O and their going to do all that while I sit in an air-conditioned waiting room playing on my cell phone.
