Last nights sunset at Storrie Lake

I made my way down to Grants New Mexico this morning and am currently boondocked in the Walmart parking lot. I hadn't planned on going west on I 40 today I was figuring on staying somewhere a little north of Albuquerque, but seeing which way the wind was blowing I headed west and had a really good tailwind that blew me into Grants.

I'll probably mosey on into Arizona tomorrow since it's only about an hour away. I was thinking about spending some time at Flagstaff since it has some good boondocking areas, but I'm kind of worried about the snow that can show up this time of year

if I don't hang around there. I may head South on I 17 to Camp Verde, it's about halfway between Flag and Phoenix. So the weather is usually not too hot and not too cold. They have some boondocking around there that I've always meant to try out but I've always been on my way to somewhere else, so this may be my chance to stop for a few days and see what's going on.

WOW did you see all those miles fly by, Somebody must have stolen the Boondork rig cause it doesn't do that! We have near freezing 32-34 degree weather forecast for parts of this week. If I did not have a family event next Sunday I would leave tomorrow. You can bet this rig will not be here this late in the year in 2018. I am really looking forward to your reports once in Az. I have never camped in Arizona so it will be very valuable to me and others.

Some days each mile is painful and seems to go on forever, other days like today I set the cruise control on 60, put my brain in neutral, and the miles pass under me as if on a treadmill.

That's hard to do in the South, because there's a lot of little towns fairly close together and the roads are kind of crowded so you have to stay on your toes all the time. But I-25 and I-40 through New Mexico goes through a lot of empty country and since the vehicles on the road are pretty sparse. You're able to settle back, relax, and let your mind wander, which is what I did today.

Cold weather is not fun but it will make you appreciate the warmer weather down south, which kind of reminds me of a line from a song I always liked titled, The world is what you make it. which says "there ain't no happy time without no pain"

I like camping in southern Arizona, especially in the desert, the place is so flat you hardly ever have to level up. And there are so many places to boondock for free that commercial campgrounds have to be a little bit more reasonable with their prices. And to top it off, the weather is mostly pretty nice. What more could you ask for?
