Boondocking at Caballo Lake state Park

I took a brief break while driving through Hatch New Mexico. Hatch is famous for growing chili peppers, and if you look on your grocery store shelves you will see a lot of various chili products with Hatch in the name. It's an interesting little town, that's famous for its chili peppers, and strange street scenery.

My hundred mile drive to Caballo state Park New Mexico went without incident, and since I can drive the speed limit on all the roads while totin the bronco, my trip went by rather quickly.

I drove to one of the boondocking areas which is near the boat launch ramp and found a spot off to myself without a problem. I'm only about 100 feet from the lake but unfortunately 50 of those feet is a pretty steep hill. But I don't mind, I don't have to go down to the lake if I don't want to.

I figure I'll stay here two or three days and then mosey up I-25 to Truth or Consequences  [T or C] to the Walmart then stock up for an extended stay at Elephant Butte State Park where I will probably be for a couple of weeks.

I like Caballo State Park, and Elephant Butte state Park because there's plenty of boondocking anytime I need it and I don't have to worry about making reservations to have a place to stay.

A Ranger drove by checking the annual sticker on my truck, we talked for a few minutes but I forgot to ask him if there are any first come, first serve, hookup campsites available here, since I don't see them mentioned on the website, I guess you don't know unless you ask a host or a Ranger. But since I'm boondocked off by myself I seriously doubt if I will see either one of them again while I'm here.

This Tyrannosaurus appears to be after "Big Boys" hamburger. The poor Tyrannosaurus, since he's green, he appears to have been attacked by Javelina that chewed his hand off probably thinking it was a Prickly Pear Cactus.

Yes driving through Hatch, is kind of weird, but interesting.

What looks like columns on the front of the store, some are actually giant Ristras!

I miss the old-fashioned restaurant signs, they were fun.
