Boondocking in Tombstone?

I'm missing the mounted shooters already.

It looks like the weather here is going to take a turn for the worse, and the next day or two, it's supposed to be chilly, windy, and rainy, none of which are my favorite things to have to deal with while boondocking.

But it shouldn't be too bad because I've got my Little Buddy radiant heater that I can use if I need to stay warm. Wind, within reason, doesn't bother me as much as it used to since I don't have to worry about the Arctic Fox blowing off the Highway. And rain is okay; Lord knows we all need it, as long as I'm not boondocked in or near a dry wash if it rains too hard.

Last night while playing around on the Internet, I accidentally bumped into something that was a complete surprise to me and will probably change the places I go to boondock.

I mentioned yesterday that on my way to Tucson for Christmas, I will probably stop at Tombstone, Arizona since it's a town I've always been fascinated with and spend a few days taking care of some business and enjoying the scenery. I've always wished there was a better place to stay in Tombstone than the very expensive and crowded RV parks in town. And last night, that wish may have come true.

Rooting around in the Internet, seeing what RV parks in the area cost, I ran into a place I had never seen before, even though it's right downtown. It's called the Tombstone Dry Camping RV Park, and just like it says, it's just a big dirt parking lot where you can boondock for ten bucks a night, literally a three-minute walk to downtown Allen Street. In fact, if you know where the old historic courthouse is, on Toughnut Street, it's about one block south of the courthouse.

I consider this a great thing and will pretty much guarantee that I will be spending more time and money visiting Tombstone in the future.

The mounted shooting is like a family event. Everybody knows one another, and even though they all want to win, they will do anything they can to help you win.

This guy looks like an old-time sheriff to me.... Administering justice the way it used to be when the cops had the old saying.... You might beat the rap, but you won't beat the ride.

What do you get when you put a cowboy hat brim on a helmet??  You get a lot of weird looks!

Back a long time ago in 1878 when everybody rode horses except me of course, and even back then I was driving a pickup truck. There was a great debate about whether a running horse ever had all four feet off the ground at the same time. The horse's feet were moving too fast to see them do it, so a lot of people said all four feet never left the ground at the same time, while some people said they did.

This conundrum was solved by a photographer who set up 12 cameras in a line with the shutters tied to strings, and as a horse galloped by it tripped the camera shutters and showed to everyone's satisfaction that at one point in their stride a horse does indeed have all four hooves off the ground just like you see in my picture.

This discipline requires shooting skills and horsemanship.

Remember this is a timed event. You have to get around the arena very quick, and every missed balloon adds a few seconds to your time

Some girls just look better carrying a gun than others.
