Bosque Del Apache day seven, Solo birds.

Clicking the pics may do you some good, how it all works is not understood, but if it works the way that it should, the pics will look bigger in all likelihood..

Very few so-called "bird experts" would recognize this Panamanian Albino Fruit Bat, but I was quickly able to realize that this bird was a real rarity far from his jungle home and thriving in the arid Southwest.

These fruit bats are primarily known for eating other fruit bats. And so I imagine this one flew to New Mexico to escape being a Thanksgiving meal for his close friends and relatives that value the distinctive flavor of a rare bird that's all white meat

I've given up on getting to the Bosque early enough to see the Snow Geese do their liftoff at dawn. After the problem I had with my headlights being so dim the other night, there is no way I want to drive down that narrow two-lane blacktop that goes to the Bosque again with barely enough light to see the lines in the road.

So one of these days, when I've got some spare time, a speck of ambition, and my laziness under control, I'll get outside and polish my headlight lenses again. I've got my drill and polishing pad because I knew I would have to polish the headlight lenses again someday, but I don't know if I brought the polish.

I took many bird pictures, many more than I could use for this week's blog. So I'll put them away for now, but when needed, I'll dust them off and drag them out on a day when I don't have any current pictures to show.

Tomorrow, I'll leave the Bosque Del Apache and head south for Elephant Butte State Park, which is only about 80 miles straight down I-25 from here, an easy drive even for me.

I talked to someone here at the RV park who just came from Elephant Butte, and they said the water level is still high in the reservoir, which means there's less boondocking space for the people who want to boondock on the beach. Now, I have no desire whatsoever to boondock on the shore because that's where all the partiers hang out, and it's the most crowded, noisiest place to boondock in the whole park.

 But it does affect me because if all those partiers can't find a place on the beach to camp, they start spilling over into places where I boondock, and then I have to put up with them as neighbors.

But I don't expect it to be a problem. The young party animals get to the beach early on holidays, so they'll have their favorite Beach to stay on, so the people who spill over into normal boondocking areas where I'm at are usually families and other nice folks.

 This Lithuanian Hat Bird wears a silly hat to scare off predators. The predators don't run away in fear, they fall on the ground laughing so hard they can't get back up.

The Bosque sometimes produces extraordinary magic moments...maybe one day I'll see one of those magic moments and take a picture of it.
