Christmas day

Might as well click the pics, there's not much else to do on Christmas Day... Unless your cooking Christmas dinner.

A good example of how totally unreliable I am would be my actions this Christmas Day. Having nothing better to do today, I decided to drive downtown to the London Bridge, the tourist hub of Lake Havasu, take a few snapshots and see what's going on. After accomplishing that, I was going to return to my boondocking spot and cook myself a Christmas lunch. But having my home on my back like a turtle often opens up options of things I can do that sometimes don't make much sense, but what the heck?

After taking a few snapshots of the bridge and marveling at how nice the weather is here, I moseyed back to the truck, climbed in, and started thinking that when I head south tomorrow, there might be some people on the road driving around just to get out of the house. But If I left today, there probably wouldn't be anybody on the road but me because who goes anywhere on Christmas day?

This made a lot of sense to me, so I got back on the highway, and instead of turning left back to my boondocking spot and making some lunch, I headed south toward Yuma.

Now Yuma is about 160 miles from Havasu, a distance I have no intention of driving in one day, not because I can't, but because I choose not to. I had much rather have a leisurely drive, stopping along the way for the night and enjoying my trip instead of driving like I have to be somewhere... Because I don't.

And that's why I am currently spending a night or two back at the Bluewater casino parking lot relaxing in the sunny 75° weather.   That drive from Lake Havasu took about 35 miles off of my trip to Yuma. And I figure if I spend another few nights in Quartzsite, I'll be able to make the final jump to Yuma with an easy, relaxing, and very brief drive.

I was at the London Bridge about 9 o'clock this morning, and as you can see the temperature along the river where I was happen to be 59°, and I was perfectly comfortable in a T-shirt. How is that possible? Because the humidity was in the teens. It's amazing how low humidity can make a place comfortable even though it's too chilly or too hot.

Nature is really amazing! This cute little baby penguin appears to have swam all the way from the North Pole just to be in Lake Havasu on Christmas day.

How did he know where Lake Havasu is? I have a GPS that helps me find this place, but this baby penguin obviously can't afford a GPS.

Fortunately my extensive training in the habits of wildlife has given me a perfectly logical explanation. This baby penguin rode halfway across the world on the back of a  Narwhale, somehow knowing that species of whale only mates in the Colorado River under the London Bridge.... Like I said, Nature is just amazing.

These are the stairs you use to get from the bottom of the bridge up onto the bridge. The stairs are pretty steep, but it's your only choice in less you're driving.

If you click the pic you can see a lighthouse in the middle of the picture.  Havasu has almost 30 lighthouses, each one is a small replica of a world-famous lighthouse, and is built using donations from various people or groups.

Christmas Day was a warm sunny day to be bicycling alongside the Colorado river in Lake  Havasu

Or pushing a baby stroller

Or trying to catch a few bass. It was a beautiful day to be out and about on the river.
