Como Colorado

The town is ghostly and barely alive but even in ghost towns people do thrive. so click all the pics while you still can, And see all the buildings while they still stand , they won't last forever in this ghostly land.

I drove to Como this morning... "The ghost town with a little life left in it." I went to the only store in town, which combines a tiny gift shop and post office. After explaining how I'm a longtime Colorado resident, I asked the postmistress a few questions about where can I park, because I've never been to Como before and I've seen some no parking signs already. She told me I could leave my truck in front of the post office if I wouldn't be there to long. Not defining what long was, but she knew I was taking pictures of the town, so that's where the camper stayed during my visit to Como.

I asked her if there was any place I could boondock in town overnight, and she said no. The closest place to camp was Fairplay, about 10 miles away, and every place in Como was private property.

So that messed up my plans of getting Como sunrise and sunset pictures. So, after taking a few snapshots, I drove to the Fairplay area and boondocked in the national forest.

I was hoping to camp somewhere in Como to get pictures when the light was better. But, I was stuck taking pictures of Como about lunchtime when the lighting is at its worst.

but I can understand that they are protective of their little town and don't want bums hanging around, and I reckon I do fit the profile of a bum... but at least I'm not a homeless bum.

This looks like at one time it used to be a grocery store, but there's no need for one now, the town's only got about a dozen permanent residence. Most of the refurbished houses are only used by the summer residence,  and if you've seen the winters around here you would know why. it's about 9500 feet here, and even though it was a bright sunny day I was still wearing a long sleeved shirt around lunchtime.

The Internet here in the national forest is pretty darn slow and it took me a while to put the pictures up....There will be more pics tomorrow.
