day two, Land's End Hill climb.

You know you're a really dedicated boondocker when you carry a lawnmower with you.

It was kind of overcast for most of the day. The clouds weren't very thick because I still got a little bit of charging from the solar panels. It sprinkled a little but not enough to be a problem, in fact it kept the dust down and cooled things off which was great.

Today is the actual race, yesterday was a practice day so the drivers could see what their times are going to be and make any needed adjustments to the vehicle, and I think everybody got three runs up the hill yesterday. Today is when the times actually count and trophies were given out this afternoon.

It's been a fun but tiring day, I still had to do a lot of standing and walking but there's a lot of interesting things going on so it makes it more tolerable.

The lower pits are on the top of a Canyon. There's a trail from the pits down to the bottom of the canyon where there's a small creek. The trail is steep and about half a mile long but getting down to the creek is not that hard, getting up again is another matter. It was a really hot day so I walked down to the creek and this dog was having the time of her life splashing in the water. I wish I could get that excited about a creek, but I was more worried about getting out of the canyon without calling the Flight for Life.

This afternoon I went up to about the middle of the hill on Land's End Road and this was my view of the lower pits. I took a few pictures of the cars negotiating one of the many hairpin turns their faced with before they get to the top. Tomorrow I'll post the pictures I took on the curve.
