Day two of my 30 minute project

I woke up in the middle of the night last night, and not for the usual reason, this time it was for something good.

Somehow in my sleep I had realized the mistake I was making trying to install the new sprockets on the little Beta 250 and it was so simple that I figured it out while I was asleep. I'm thinking that if I slept more I could become a genius.

The new sprocket set consists of a bigger front sprocket and a smaller rear sprocket and that's where I screwed up. I tried putting the chain on the bigger new front sprocket without putting on the smaller rear sprocket totally forgetting that the old sprocket was bigger than the new sprocket. Oh well I guess that's the reason dork is a part of my name.

Well anyway, I changed both sprockets and adjusted the chain this morning and now it rides mo betta. I now have more usable gears than I had before and it rides more like a trail bike so I'm very happy with the change.

It got darn chilly last night. When I got up this morning my outdoor thermometer said 40, and since I don't sleep with any heat on it was 48 in the Arctic Fox. But it didn't seem to affect the daytime weather as it was sunny and 70 by lunchtime.

Yesterday when I went to one of the tool vendors in Quartzsite to get the circlip pliers I had to force myself to leave because he had all kinds of good stuff for sale and the temptation was overpowering so I decided on the spot that I should never go back there again.

But while I was working on the Beta 250 I was using my outside doormat to kneel on while working, it's made out of some kind of Astroturf looking stuff, and if you put a little screw on it it falls down inside the carpet and it's hard to retrieve.

 Then I remember seeing at the vendor some big carpet squares he had for sale. They look like showroom samples from a carpet store and were about 2  1/2 x 2  1/2 feet square and would be perfect for kneeling on. I Can't remember what the price was but they were dirt cheap as was everything he had, so it looks like I'm going to have to pay him another visit. I only hope I can get out of there without having to buy a wheelbarrow from him to carry all my stuff home.
