We carried a weather radio when we were boondocking so it would warn us when we needed to know what was coming. But, we only crossed a big dry wash on our way to an overnight if we were going to meet friends who were already there. And we never put out a bunch of stuff. My last van didn't even have an awning.

Linda, I've still got a battery-powered emergency radio in the Arctic Fox, but it was just too big to put in the Lance. And a long time ago while traveling in Texas in my Hallmark pop-up camper, there were tornado warnings that were somewhere near where I was boondocking.
