Soldiers from Fort Carson are heading downrange where they have their war-games. And apparently they have to pull over at rest-stops just like the rest of us travelers.

I'm back in Colorado Springs and happily boondocking at the Bass Pro shop parking lot. I've stayed here many times before; it's a good place to spend the night and get mentally prepared to be around people all the time... And it's not as easy as you might think.

During the winter, I spent a lot of time in the desert, where there are people, but they are few, and far between. So I'm not used to spending much time around people or having buildings all around me... That will all change tomorrow morning, which will take a little getting used to.

It was an uneventful trip today, and uneventful is just the way I like my trips. I stopped and got some lunch at Subway, and I stopped at a rest-area and took pictures of some soldiers driving trucks to what's called "downrange," at least that's what we called it when I was working as a civilian at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, which is where these GIs were from.

In the next few days, I expect to write a "debriefing" blog post about what went on this winter and how I felt about it.

I expected that I would install my new vent fan over the bed, where there's a vent, but no fan, while traveling this winter since I enjoy doing things like that while I'm traveling because it gives me something useful to do. In addition, I get to walk around hardware stores looking for the various pieces and parts I need for whatever project I'm working on, which I also enjoy. But since I didn't bring my telescoping ladder with me on this trip and don't like using the built-in camper ladder, I kept putting the vent fan installation off, so now here I am without having accomplished much of anything this winter..... Except of course enjoying myself.

Another reason for not putting in the new vent fan is the weather was so chilly in my travels, that I never once needed a vent fan over the bed to cool the camper off. I much prefer a vent fan to an air conditioner on at night. An air conditioner never feels as good as the cool night air to me. That could be from living in Miami for decades, and having an air conditioner running 24 / 7 pretty much all year, and still sleeping in a pool of sweat.... There might also be some procrastination involved.
