My unlevel campsite. It's free, and no reservations required. But it's so unlevel I didn't even try to run my refrigerator.

 There are only five first come, first serve boondocking sites at the City of Rocks, and I've stayed in four of them over the years, but the one I've never been able to stay in is the "best one." And the best one is blessed with a relatively flat place to Park and is on the edge of all the big boulders, so there's no one very close to me, and I can look in three directions and see nothing but nature. And It has a great view of the sunset and a pretty good view of the sunrise, but I've never been able to camp there because it's always in use the whole time I'm here.

If I walk out of my current boondocking campsite and go about 100 feet down the road, I can see the "best" boondocking spot, and every once in a while, I do that just to see if it is empty, even though it never has been.

Then today, about lunchtime, I walked down the road, and lo and behold, I didn't see the SUV that's been camping there; I swear my heart was pounding, but I couldn't get too excited yet, since the person was camping in an SUV, and not a trailer, I had to walk to the site and check for any signs left behind that they were out shopping and would soon be returning. So I looked for a folding chair,  anything sitting on the picnic table, or traffic cones in the boondocking site's driveway, all respected and honored signs that the campsite owner will be returning. And thankfully they were none.

I don't run very often, come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I ran, but because that site is first come, first serve and belongs to anyone who pulls in there, I ran back to the truck. The truck is sitting on every leveling block I own, but I backed off the blocks, and left them in my old site to be picked up later.

At the same time, I exceeded every speed limit I've ever seen at a campground, or an interstate highway for that matter, drifted around a sharp curve, and in a cloud of dust pulled into the "Best" boondocking site at the City of Rocks State Park; for the very first time... I can't believe my luck.

And this is a good example of how I solve a lot of my problems. Instead of worrying and stressing out over things, I just forget about it and often as not, the problem just solves itself. This has worked well for me... except when dealing with the IRS.
