I never hear about Marlin fishing on the TX coast anymore. But apparently it still happens as I just looked it up. Maybe I don't know anybody with serious gear.

Fishing for Marlin has changed a lot, the days of catching a couple of Marlin and hanging them on hooks next to the boat docks with their weight proudly displayed on the fish just so you can take their pictures is long gone. The charter boat owners liked doing that because it was a good advertisement for his fish finding abilities, but even the charter captains realize that they were slowly killing off their business with less and less Marlin to catch every year... So I don't think they do that anymore, at least not the smart people, for the most part it's catch and release.

Marlin are beautiful fish and I imagine catching one is exciting and challenging. As a person who is not a fish eater I appreciate the catch and release approach. I have no problem with folks harvesting fish for consumption but over harvesting can be a problem. I do love my smoked salmon and I do miss living in PNW and having access to fresh wild Salmon to smoke. I currently fish at the Costco river to maintain my supply.

Good comment Larry, as is usually the case my response ran way too long, so I have turned the response into my blog post for the day. Thank you for giving me something to write about.

I considered myself a snow bird for several winters. My summer place was in Minnesota. I spent my winters moving from Texas to Arizona and back again. I did have a "home" park near Parker but I could only stay there two weeks at a time so I moved around all winter--mostly around Parker, Q, and Phoenix.

That sounds like almost exactly what I'm doing Linda, except I don't get any farther North than Colorado. I think it might be hard to find a place that you could drive as little distance as I do to be in a fairly comfortable summer place, heavily dependent on your altitude of course. And a fairly comfortable winter place in southern Arizona.
