I got an exceptionally good night's sleep last night since there's nothing but peace and quiet happening on Ghost Town Road. Quite often, when I'm boondocking, I can at least hear some road noise in the background, but there are no roads to speak of near me except for Ghost Town Road, and the name of the road offers a clue as to the noise and excitement happening on that particular road.

A beautiful day today, sunny, the high 70s, humidity in the low teens, and no wind. I couldn't ask for better. Easter weekend looks like the weather will be perfect, but after that, there are a few days with 90° in the forecast; been quite a while since I've seen one of those. But that's okay; the humidity has settled down, so it's almost in the single digits, which makes 90° more than comfortable, especially with overnight lows still in the low 60s... I can take just about any temperature in the daytime, as long as it's cool to sleep at night.

Driving through Wickenburg yesterday morning, whose motto is "The Cowboy Capital Of The World." I noticed a lot of stuff going on at the downtown team roping arena, making me want to get back there and see what's happening. There are team roping arenas all over town, but the downtown one is particularly huge and has room for hundreds of horse trailers and trucks.

So, I reckon I'll mosey over to Wickenburg in a couple of days, catch a little team roping, and find a boondocking spot to hole up in for the Easter weekend,

I've mostly lived in cities so, to me, highway noise sounds like ocean waves. Unless there are sirens. No sirens on the ocean.

I've mostly lived in towns myself, but a lot of those towns were in the South so they weren't very large and they were overall pretty peaceful... Until my dad moved us all to Miami Florida. And shortly thereafter Miami became the crime capital of the United States, not because of me mind you, and not because of the Mafia, of which they were plenty; because the Mafia families considered Miami a vacation area for the Mafia bosses so they left each other alone. No it was because of tens of thousands of aliens pouring in, with no concern for who they were. Drug smuggling, South American and Cuban gangs, Haitian criminals, and a legal system that was overwhelmed by all the crime....hmmm that sounds kinda familiar.

But that didn't deter me from moving back to Miami after I got out of the Air Force because despite the crime, I had lived there longer than any other place we'd ever been.

And I said all of that just so I could say this. The home I bought in Miami when I got out of the service, was about half a mile from the Main road in Florida, which is US 1. And crime in Miami being what it was, was the road cops usually ended up going down with their sirens blasting and that went on all day and all night.

And of course the Dade County cops had lots of helicopters to help them find and catch people, and there again the almost constant sound of helicopters with the whop, whop, whop, of their blades hovering over my neighborhood mixed with the unending police sirens are sounds that are burned into my psyche and even today put me on edge every time I hear them... Just ask your Dave how he feels in the pit of his stomach whenever he hears helicopter blades. And no Miami was not as bad as Vietnam, but I lived in Miami for about 20 of the worst years for crime Florida had ever seen.

See? You hit a nerve and caused me to write uncontrollably for far too long. I should've made this my blog post for the day because I haven't done anything worth writing about at all today.
