I accidentally woke up this morning just as the sun was coming up, and looking out the window the mountains just down the road from Ben Avery were covered in snow, I couldn't believe it, I know it was raining a lot and I knew it had been pretty chilly but I didn't expect to see snow this far South.
I couldn't get a very good picture of the snow from my campsite so I got dressed, scraped the ice off the windshield of the truck, and drove north about 5 miles to the nearest Walmart. I took a couple of pictures along the way and bought a few things I had been needing.
I knew it wasn't impossible for it to snow in the Phoenix area because I've seen pictures of it before, but I'd never been here and experienced it myself. I think the snow fits perfectly with the kind of winter I've been having in Arizona, which in general has been chilly and wet.
I reckon there's no place in the country where there's zero chance of it getting pretty cold in the winter, I've been in Miami Florida when it snowed, and in Key West when I had to wear a coat. So even places that are notable for their mild winter weather can still become uncomfortable every once in a while. The difference is, it doesn't happen very often, and it doesn't last very long.
