Good news at last

My little piece of boondocking heaven. BLM land Quartzsite Arizona

I got some really good news today, I learned that my Yamaha WR450 has been sold, and the seat for my little Beta trials bike is in. I couldn't be happier.

The person who bought my motorcycle is from out of town and the dealer is waiting for the check to clear before he ships him the motorcycle so I'm going to go back to Phoenix on Wednesday to finish everything up.

The only question now is how I want to do that. I have several options available I just don't know which is the best at the moment. It's about 130 miles from where I'm at in Quartzsite to the motorcycle shop in Phoenix so I could leave the Arctic Fox here and drive to Phoenix which would take four or five hours for the round-trip. The biggest downside to that is I have to leave the Arctic Fox all alone in the desert for four or five hours.

Or I could tow the Arctic Fox back to Ben Avery's gun range for a night or two and then tow it back to Quartzsite when everything is done. The biggest downside to that is towing the trailer all that way, going slow, and using extra fuel.

Another option is I could have things mailed to me General Delivery in Quartzsite. The downside to that is it would take longer, and the tiny little post office in Quartzsite is swamped right now with general delivery for tens of thousands of boondocker's

Luckily I can procrastinate till Wednesday morning before I have to flip a coin to make a decision.

My experience has put me in the take my home with me group. You never know when something else special will come up and you will need the home with you to take advantage of it. Is there something requiring you to come back to this same spot really soon?

I do hate to leave the Arctic Fox alone but I do have some neighbors that would watch it for me. But what if I got in a fender bender and couldn't get back to Quartzsite ? Things like that worry me.

Since I've got to drive through some heavy traffic when I get to Phoenix there's no way I can pull the Arctic Fox to the motorcycle shop, so if I take the trailer with me I'll have to camp someplace, maybe at Ben Avery's again and all of that would turn a five hour deal into a two day deal, which I guess isn't a big deal.

Writing this down is starting to make me lean towards taking the trailer with me like you suggested because in a worst-case scenario I would hate to be without a truck and a home.

And no there isn't a reason I need to come back to this spot there are plenty of spots as good or better than this one.

Hope you're feeling better with the creeping crud you had.

Plan carefully. In 2013 I got caught in the government shutdown in New Mexico when they shut down BLM and NFS as well as the National Parks. The State Parks in NM and TX got filled up right away. I made it to Del Rio and a commercial park. Kinda messed up plans that year.

That is a good thought, there will be a few things affected by the shutdown but not as much as when Democrats are in charge of the government. They try to make a shutdown as painful as possible to the average person to show everyone how important it is to have as many bureaucrats as possible on the government payroll.

I worked for the Federal government for 13 years and have seen it from the inside out, and the fact is every agency has backup funds and most agencies can continue to work so this is what you're going to see with this shutdown. In the Obama shutdown of 2013 he wouldn't let agencies use their backup funds so a lot of thing shutdown that didn't need to.

Fortunately for me Ben Avery's gun range is an Arizona state run facility, and since I can't think of any federal agencies I may have to deal with I should be fine.

Here's hoping the IRS shuts down and stays shutdown until the hinges fall off the gates of hell. This country prospered long before the IRS came along and we can do it again.
