Halloween costumes

I'm running out of pics, click them while you still can.

These Sandhill Cranes just leaving the ground and flying away represents the last of my Sandhill Crane pictures from my recent mini-vacation to Alamosa. Just seeing the Cranes makes me want to drive down to the Bosque Del Apache, where they live for the winter, and I have a much better chance of getting more interesting pictures.

I'm getting to the point where there's not a lot to do to get the Lance ready to head south for the winter. I think I've done all the important things now, and I believe I should have everything done by the end of the week so that I can leave anytime. But I don't want to go until after Halloween, I want to see the grandkids in their Halloween costumes.

It looks like there's a cold front coming through Denver Sunday or Monday, which will take the high temperatures down to the low 60s and nighttime temperatures down into the 20s. And It looks like it will stay pretty chilly for the rest of that week. And it's temperatures like those that start to slowly give me the urge to find some desert weather down south and a nice Saguaro to boondock next to.

And along with the chilly weather pushing me out of town, I have the ever-increasing problem of the sun getting lower and lower on the horizon while staying at my daughter's house. Because of the trees and houses in the way, my solar panels don't collect as much sun as they did during the summer, when the sun was straight up in the sky, all this when I need to run my heaters to stay warm.

And as the temperatures drop here, I am more dependent on my propane heaters, which have to run more and more the colder it gets, which means my factory furnace uses more electricity when the sun is not providing as much charging as I need. And my radiant heater is burning up a lot of expensive propane.

The solution for that is, and always has been, head for the desert where it doesn't get as cold, and when it does, it doesn't stay that way for long.

Sounds like you're going to just fork over some $$ for propane. I have never heard of or seen a tree cricket. So YELLOW. Geez. How do they survive? Unless they are in the middle of a flower that has a yellow middle. Or, do they change colors, like a chameleon?

Yeah, propane goes up no matter what else is going, its just one of the built-in costs of living in an RV.

From what I've read there's a bunch of different kinds of tree crickets, and numerous colors, so that pale yellow Cricket, which by the way is about the ugliest cricket I ever saw, is the way it looks all the time. Maybe it just stays on pale yellow plants all all day.

Those videos you made about boondocking locations in Arizona when you first started this blog have been very helpful to me several times since then. Thank you for making them.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you Barney, but I was babysitting the family dog while my family was out of town, so I was staying in their house overnight.

I'm glad somebody's getting some use out of those videos, I had planned on making videos of the places I went and some of the things I did, and I still haven't totally given up on the idea, but making videos is so time consuming, and since I was never satisfied with the way they ended up I mostly gave up on the idea.

I've still got a video about half done, of a horse show in Tucson, and about half of a video of the Sandhill Cranes at Whitewater draw Arizona. I was hoping one day I could finish both of those videos but it always seems like I've got something better to do than spending hours and hours, cutting, editing, and rendering video.

But the balloon rally I'm going to the first of December sure would make a nice video full of action and bright colors..... Who knows, maybe I'll get in the mood.

It is hard to choose between family and warm weather. They each provide warmth in a way.

That's very true Linda, being with family does give me a warm fuzzy feeling. But as you know in your location, when the temperatures get low, the snow gets deep, and it feels like the winter will never end, you've either got to enjoy something about that season, like skiing, or riding around on a snowmobile, or you need to go someplace where there's some sunshine and warm weather most of the time. And by the amount of people that flock to southern Florida, southern Texas, and southern Arizona, it appears, a lot of folks choose to pack up and move to where it's warm for the winter.

Regarding you comment that it does matter who is president:
Somehow, we have put an evil, senile old idiot in charge, and he is letting his cabal of "progressive" advisors run the place. What do you expect?

That does seem to be the case. But I always figure that no matter how bad a politician is, sooner or later there love for this country will make them do the right thing. But that assumes that a politician does love this country, but I don't see a love of country manifested in today's leadership.
